When Russell joins Black Arts games, brainchild of two visionary designers who were once his closest friends, he reunites with an eccentric crew of nerds hacking the frontiers of both technology and entertainment. In part, he's finally given up chasing the conventional path that has always seemed just out of reach. But mostly, he needs to know what happened to Simon, his strangest and most gifted friend, who died under mysterious circumstances soon after Black Arts' breakout hit.As the company's revolutionary next-gen game is threatened by a software glitch, Russell finds himself in a race to save his job, Black Arts' legacy, and the people he has grown to care about. The deeper Russell digs, the more dangerous the glitch appears--and soon, Russell comes to realize there's much more is at stake than just one software company's bottom line.

I have read books by both of these #siblings and love their works in different ways.

Couldn't tell you which one is Austin and which one is Lev though. Honestly I'm not entirely sure they aren't just one guy with some smoke and mirrors involved.

#AwesomeAutumnBooks

vivastory They look eerily similar to Daniel Wilson 7y
TobeyTheScavengerMonk @vivastory "They" Scott? Or just "he"? We may never know. 7y
LibrarianRyan Lev is on the left. 7y
Balibee146 Yeah I thought it Lev on the left too after peering at them for a while... Great photo 7y
diovival This reminds me of John Oliver's theory on the Olson twins 😂 7y

Here's a #recommendsday pick inspired by @Reggie and his post about League of Legends.

Written by one of the Brothers Grossman (Austin's twin Lev wrote The Magicians) this is a novel about game design, growing up, finding yourself, and a demon sword hidden deep in the code.

There's an alternate reality where I'm a gamer, but between husband- and fatherhood, books, movies, and games something had to give, what with time being finite and all.

Georgette73 Ooh. Will check it out. 7y
TobeyTheScavengerMonk @Georgette73 It's a solid good, maybe not a great. Austin Grossman has a way with words that causes me to give his occasionally wonky plotting a pass. 7y
Ruri_kaichou I totally relate. If I have free time, video games are usually at the bottom of the list. 7y
readinginthedark This is my house. Games come off the list first for me, much later for my husband. 7y

Not as engaging or enjoyable as i had hoped. Fairly dull and dragging at more times then i was really engaged. I wanted to enjoy it but just kept skimming waiting for something to happen.

I'm not a huge gamer, but I come from that generation. I became a fan of Grossman's with Soon I Will Be Invincible, and I am enjoying this one so far.
