Mehso-so

Two siblings must survive being suddenly thrown into a life of poverty, all while hiding their magic to avoid being murdered. I usually love Carol Berg books (Cate Glass is a pen name she uses sometimes), but occasionally I'll find one like this one that just didn't work for me. I did really like the characters, and was intrigued by certain mysterious magical happenings. #fantasy #ColoradoLocalAuthor

Pickpick

I was introduced to this book from a listicle about heists but it takes a lot of set up before you ever get into the heist in this. I found the world interesting in that magic exists but is thought to be evil so those that practice it are put to death if found out. Romy is forced to deal with a major upheaval in her life and throughout the book we see her adapt and grow strong as she deals with change.

Panpan

This was just a weird book. The structure was weird. The sort of romance was weird. The pacing was weird. The magic was weird. The relationships were weird. The heist was weird.

There's a lot of elements that I liked but they were just so oddly combined and it didn't work for me. The characters were all flat, the plot was flimsy, the pacing was oddly slow. It's definitely set up for a sequel but I don't see myself continuing.

I'm finished my planned TBR of audiobooks so I randomly picked this up at the library and listening along thanks to Scribd! Magic and heists is hard to fuck up so hopefully I love it.
