Rivers of London | Ben Aaronvitch
11 posts | 18 read | 1 to read
From foiling an aspiring god to confronting a Virtual Flasher, Peter's police history has been anything but conventional; whether that's chasing down "Falcon" crimes with the aid for modern technology, or confronting timeless villainy with his magical skill-set. Does Peter have what it takes... or will DI Chopra judge him unsuitable for a badge?

So far my least favorite volume. It the detective having an interview and telling all kinds of stories that happened in the past. They were okay stories, they didn't really grab me or hold my attention like the other volumes. Art was wonderful as usual. Hopefully the next volume is better.

A clever book, this one, that takes the police procedural and twists it up, then lets go to see what will happen. Bright and funny and sparking with magic and myth, and rife with likeable characters. I can see why this is such a popular series, for sure. (Read on kindle)

I should have known Aaronovich was a Discworld reader. He'd have got along great with STP!

Vansa Should I read the graphic novel or the book ? 5y
Heideschrampf @Vansa definitely the books first! The graphic novels are shortstories starting between novel 3/4 and don't provide context, so they'll be hard to understand. Go with the main peter grant-plot first and then add them as little snacks! 5y

I hate to say this but it must be said:
This volume is utter crap.

PC Peter Grant is being interviewed in the last part of the process to becoming a DCI. Four of his cases are being reviewed, one of which makes no sense at all. The single sheet comics are lame.

Aaronovitch needs to stop producing pablum like comics, novellas, and short stories and give us a real novel to sink our teeth into.

Can‘t wait for November!

Snowy Tuesday reads (I have already finished a romance novel this morning 🙌). I love comics that continue a series while novels are being written. And have the same author, thus the same tone!

Last few #bookmail arrivals here. Two comic preorders (I have already read the Lumberjane), one awesome-sounding family history nonfiction on the amazon book coupon day, and both Crazy a Rich Asians, which I just read and loved, and the next book in the series, because I have problems with self control when buying books. 🤷‍♀️ #bookhaul

When one of your favourite series quotes one of your all time favourites. A #Pratchett reference in Rivers of London. Crivens! #bemoreTerry
