While it had some small issues, this book is so much fun! Nick is... A lot. And a bit self-centered sometimes... He is loyal and loving though and he wants to do good. I love the interactions between the friends- and between Nick and his dad. Plus, Seth is just this adorable cinnamon roll. The fan fic parts were not great, and portrayal of the police was interesting. Some problematic aspects, but not bad. Four stars all in all. ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Ok... A third of the way through and I have to say. . this is adorably cringy (is that even a word?) The friends are basically squad goals, Nick is ridiculously loveable for all his crazy fan-boying and terrible ideas. So much freaking fun!

Nick writes fanfiction about his favorite superhero and decides to try to become an extraordinary to get his attention. also why won‘t his ex boyfriend leave him alone? and WHEN did his best friend get buff and was he always cute? i laughed and cringed (bc high school boys) my way through this whole story. Nick and Seth are immediately new favorites. very excited to get my hands on book 2. the fantasy element is so fun and well done.

I‘ve passed on this book an uncountable number of times. It took a friend literally thrusting their copy into my arms and telling me to enjoy it for me to actually read it. I should have read it sooner. The entire time I thought I knew the twist and that it was ridiculously obvious but NOPE it was a different twist that was even better!! 5🌟

TheIntrovertedDodoBird @Zoe-h This was my exact reaction. The whole way through, I was like, "pfft, this is so predictable," but then that twist happened, and BAM! I really should have expected it because I'm a massive TJ Klune fan, and I'm yet to be disappointed ?‍♂️?️‍??. 1y

What a fantastically cute story about teenager Nick and his friends and the extraordinaries in his life. From fanfiction to realizations, Nick's humor was great and I found the story easy to read.

The right level of cringe and second hand embarrassment to make the teenage characters realistic

Really great read, enjoyed it immensely

Funny and heartwarming mixed in with superheroes, what's not to love 😁

This book has a queer coming of age story wrapped up in a world where the good guys might not be who you think and friendship wins over everything else.

I really enjoyed this one. Klune writes such wonderful stories. 💚💜💛

I smiled (& laughed) my way thru this book. There is so much to like—a queer coming-of-age story, a main character with ADHD, superheroes & everyday heroes, humor, compassion, crushes, fanfiction, friendship & more. Klune‘s writing is exuberant & always entertaining. It is also true, readers may well find themselves uneasy, or uncomfortable, with the portrayal of police—it can be hard to separate a book from the time in which it is being read.

So... I didn't hate this, it had it's moments, but the unchallenged pro-cop bs had me nope-ing all over it. The MC annoyed me with his refusal to see what's literally right in front of him for the duration and it was just... a disappointment. Meh.

Gosh this book. It creeps up on you. The emotion, the twisty, the angst. These are traits of Klune‘s writing, and of course, the humour. My rambly review is here: https://trishtalkstexts.wordpress.com/2020/07/12/review-the-extraordinaries-by-t... #bloggingandreviewing #trishtalkstexts #lgbt #superheroes #neurodiverse #sofunny #butalsoemotional

My Sunday afternoon book. Very excited about reading Klune‘s YA debut. I read The House in the Cerulean Sea earlier this year and absolutely loved everything about it. I‘m looking forward to another fantastic story. 🤞

The book is out 7/14.

So good! Klune is quickly becoming a must read author for me. Everything he touches is magic. Something like Fangirl/Carry On with a superhero spin. Humorous & flippant while tackling difficult topics & those awkward teenage moments. The writing is fresh & funny. Klune's characters are lovable, inclusive, unapologetically themselves, & believable. The plot is sometimes a bit overly transparent, but I didn't mind since I was having so much fun.
