5 posts | 6 read | 13 to read
Informative, witty. . .Kollmann delivers terse commentary and gory detail while puncturing common misconceptions about forensics. --Booklist Step past the flashing lights into the true scene of the crime with this frank, unflinching, and unforgettable account of life as a crime scene investigator. Whether explaining rigor mortis or the art of fingerprinting a stiff corpse on the side of the road, Dana Kollmann details her true, unvarnished experiences as a CSI for the Baltimore County Police Department. "Riveting." --M. William Phelps, author of Murder in the Heartland Unlike the popular crime dramas proliferating on today's television networks, these forensic tales forgo glitz for grit to show what really goes on. Kollmann recounts stories that the cops and the CSI's usually leave in the field, bringing the sights, smells, and sounds of a crime scene alive as never before. "Raw and real." --Connie Fletcher, author of Every Contact Leaves a Trace Unveiling the process and science of crime scene investigation in all its can't-tear-your-eyes-away fascination, Never Suck a Dead Man's Hand takes you into the strange world behind the yellow tape, offering a truly eye-opening perspective on the day-to-day life of a CSI. "Gritty, witty, and heartfelt . . . a must-read." --Aphrodite Jones, New York Times bestselling author of A Perfect Husband

Pickpick

I can honestly say that I thoroughly enjoyed this book, but then again I have a sick sense of humour and find true crime fascinating. I also work in the prison system so I understand the authors dark sense of humour and her “female in a male dominated job” life. Her style of writing was informative but not condescending making it easy to read and understand.

🎧 Did you like Will My Cat Eat My Eyeballs? Well this is the CSI version of dead people. No joke.

There‘s so much insight to the CSI job & hilarious personal stories about life as a Crime Scene Investigator for the Baltimore County Police Department.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻

Twainy CSI isn‘t as glamorous as you think. Some truly horrific stories are detailed within this book. This is written with a biting sarcasm that sometimes makes the author feel a little mean but for the job she had it‘s 100% forgivable! 👇🏻👇🏻 4y
Twainy Whether it‘s taking fingerprints off of a frozen corpse or dodging flying blood & guts being ejected from a ceiling fan the stories don‘t stop.

The narrator is a good choice as she seems no nonsense.

It‘s gross but I loved it! 👇🏻

Twainy Thank you NetGalley! 🖤 4y
Twainy PS - there is a lot of dark humor. The author will come across as mean many times. I can‘t emphasize that enough. She worked for ten years in a job that was historically a man‘s job. She put up with their hazing and the most horrible side of death so take her judgey Mc judgerson attitude with the full picture in mind. Dark humor 😆 (edited) 4y
CaroPi Just add it to my books. This sounds right on my alley 4y

Bailedbailed

I feel guilty bailing on another book so soon, but I can't take anymore of this. It soooo boring!!! I get the author wants to change the image of CSI from what we see on TV, but does the change have to be this dull?? Next please!!

Crazeedi I dont worry about bailing, too many books out there!! 5y

A nonfiction book about dead bodies is instantly going on my TBR, which is how I ended up adding this one to my GR shelf.
