pickOh wow, there's so much to chew on and think about in this book. While I have complicated feelings about forgiveness, I also appreciated what Lin does in terms of approaching families and personal growth.
Grace Lins' illustrations are so wonderful and her art matches her writing perfectly ♥️
Another #illustrated treasure, filled with enchanting characters and absolutely lovely stories, inspired by Chinese folklore. I love these books which are for audiences of all ages. Will share some illustrations from within later 😊

(I mentioned to book club that "everyone always leaves me; love is a lie" + "I would leave if only I could" is an A+ emotional conflict for me when done well because I LOVE it when characters get to be astonished by love and generosity.)
pickThis was so much fun to read aloud to my 3rd graders after just having finished Where the Mountain Meets the Moon! They loved that book and were just as enchanted by this one with its stories-within-the-story format and heartfelt lessons of forgiveness and learning to let go. The 2 books are connected—great opportunity to practice compare and contrast and making inferences. Kiddos and I are excited to start book 3, When the Sea Turned to Silver!
