Frank Schatzing's The Swarm was an international science-fiction blockbuster, winner of the Koln Literatur Prize, the Corine Prize, and the German Science Fiction Prize. Limit is his most ambitious work to-date--a multilayered thriller that balances astonishing scientific, historical, and technical detail. Against this backdrop, Schatzing convincingly realizes a possible near future when humankind's ingenuity may become the greatest risk to its continued existence. In 2025, entrepreneur Julian Orley opens the first-ever hotel on the moon. But Orley Enterprises deals in more than space tourism--it also operates the world's only space elevator, which in addition to allowing the very wealthy to play tennis on the lunar surface connects Earth with the moon and enables the transportation of helium-3, the fuel of the future, back to the planet. Julian has invited twenty-one of the world's richest and most powerful individuals to sample his brand-new lunar accommodation, hoping to secure the finances for a second elevator. On Earth, meanwhile, cybercop Owen Jericho is sent to Shanghai to find a young female hacker known as Yoyo, who's been on the run since acquiring access to information that someone seems quite determined to keep quiet. As Jericho closes in on the girl and the conspiracy swirling around her, he finds mounting evidence that connects her to Julian Orley as well as to the entrepreneur's many competitors and enemies. Soon, the detective realizes that the lunar junket to Orley's hotel is in real and immediate danger. From the Hardcover edition.

These are my six least favorite books of 2019. I rated all of them as pans except for Limit which was technically a DNF, but in spite of this it still takes home the award for my absolute least favorite book of the year because I sunk 475 pages worth of time into it and hated every second of it, so even though I didn‘t actually finish it, I didn‘t think it would be fair to myself if I didn‘t include it. 😅

Bailedbailed

I honestly could rant about how unpleasant it was to read this book for hours, but my three main complaints/reasons for bailing are:
1. Poor writing/translation made things awkward and confusing
2. Waaaaaaaaaaay too much sexism
3. It‘s really boring
Mostly 2 though. The descriptions of the women were gross and made my skin crawl. 😖
I was reading this for my #friendrecchallenge which is the only reason I stuck with it for 475 pages, but ⬇️

shadowspeak17 there‘s no way I could take the remaining 774. I‘m done. Good riddance. 5y
BookmarkTavern Life‘s too short to read grossly sexist books! Good on you! 🍾 Hope your next read is much more enjoyable for you! 5y

1. It‘s my last #friendrecchallenge book, but I‘m honestly not feeling it... and I still have 1,000 pages left... I don‘t want to bail but things aren‘t looking good. 🙃
2. Probably nothing special.
3. I‘ve been really into Blue Bell‘s Butter Crunch recently. 😋👍🏽
4. The only one I can play well is the flute. I‘m also competent on piccolo, and I know some extremely basic piano and ukulele. 😂

Finally getting around to starting this #chunkster for my #friendrecchallenge. I‘ve been hesitant to start it since the last few chunksters I‘ve read have disappointed me and this one‘s even longer than those were. 🙃 It‘s time though. Fingers crossed I actually enjoy this one. 🤞🏽😬

I‘ve finished half the prompts for #booked2019 and have exceeded my Goodreads reading goal, but I have yet to start any of the books for my #friendrecchallenge. 😱 It is only three books though, so I‘ve got time at least. 😂 I do have one on hold at the library and I just downloaded this one, so I think I‘ll be starting one of them soon. 😁👍🏽
