I was surprised it is listed for a younger audience. Outside of the age of the characters indicating YA status, I found the language and concepts to be complex and beautifully articulated, so that it seems out of place in that genre. It‘s a confusing genre anyway. But I digress. I loved the characters and the world building was most excellent. If you love the fae world and a new/old way of perceiving their existence, give this book a shot.

I made it halfway through before I decided I can‘t waste anymore time on books I‘m not enjoying. This book suffers from a problem a lot of YA suffers from, the female protagonist doesn‘t actually do anything and the male romantic interest forwards the story instead. The writing is mediocre at best, especially the dialogue, and she gave a white character dreadlocks which is always a warning sign for me.

The weirdest thing just happened to me, Holly Madison, famous for Playboy and the tv show The Girls Next Door, just liked one of my pictures on Instagram. It was a book picture lol.

I got 100 pages in, and I just don't care. Too bad, the author is a lovely woman from the Austin area. On to the next. 😒

This book was so hard for me to get through and I still don't know how I feel about it. One word comes to mind when I think about it- whimsical. I loved Clare's connection with the yew tree. I really enjoy fae stories so that's why I was drawn to this book. The writing is very whimsical and dreamy but I felt disconnected from everything but the parts that had the trees. I'd give this book ⭐️⭐️⭐️.

Good plot and well thought out but I can't pin point exactly what made me not love this book. Maybe the flow? I don't know...

Picked this up today :)

Another recent book about Faerie that I loved. This one is YA, and probably on the younger and tamer side as well, but so good. I'll read anything by Katherine Catmull, it's all so dreamy and beautiful. And full of The Strange, of course.

Maybe it's because I was expecting an adult book and this was YA? The end was so much stronger than the beginning. I need more fairy origin in a fairy story and a deeper connection for love. Loved the inner beasts though.

Puppy and I are excited for Saturday night reading! Bring on the fairies!!
