so-soTo be sure, I adore Kafka, but mostly in novel form such as The Castle, Amerika and so on. While I can appreciate some of the stories in this volume, including the famous Metamorphosis and dark, comedic, absurd takes such as Description of a Struggle and In the Penal Colony, I admittedly did not connect to much of the volume; many of the stories meander on like H.P. Lovecraft, but pretending to be a dog or a mole. Not bad. Not amazing.
"And so long as you say" one" instead of "I", there's nothing in it and one can easily tell the story; but as soon as you admit to yourself that it is you yourself, you feel as though transfixed and are horrified.", In the short story" Wedding Preparations in the Country", by Franz Kafka.
One of the many things I'm loving about this anthology is getting to know Kafka's humour a bit better.
so-soLa Metamorfosi e La Colonia Penale bellissimi, lasciano una sensazione di inquietudine e di malessere incredibile. Gli altri racconti invece troppo brevi o troppo poco incisivi per lasciarmi qualcosa. Peccato.

pickThis book includes all the stories written by Franz Kafka. From small to... long-ish. What an exceptional writer, what unique mind. Even after reading and rereading and rereading again, there's always something new to find in his texts.

My grandfather used to say: Life is astoundingly short. To me, looking back over it, life seems so foreshortened that I scarcely understand, for instance, how a young man can decide to ride over to the next village without being afraid that -not to mention accidents- even the span of a normal happy life may fall far short of the time needed for such a journey.

Strange. Compelling. Unsettling. Leaves the reader feeling as though they've seen something they shouldn't have.
Spent so much time agonizing over what book to bring along to #BEA16 and never even cracked the cover. I know better.
