#QuotsyAug21

I believe this #skyscraper quote comes from a poem of the same name from this book.

“By night the skyscraper looms in the smoke and stars and has a soul.”

Libby1 This book of poetry is one of my favourites. I left Chicago for Northern Ireland 20 years ago. Thanks for reminding me of my love for the city and this poet. 3y

in middle school I had to memorize and recite Sandburg's "Fog," and I still know it by heart. sometimes when I'm anxious I'll even repeat it to myself to calm down. #isthatweird #seasonsreadings2016 #poetry

Smrloomis That's lovely! 8y

I am in book nerd heaven waiting for the Chicago Public Library Foundation's Carl Sandburg Literary Awards Dinner (that's a mouthful!) to begin. I think there's a baseball game going on but honestly, I'd rather be here. Tonight's honorees include Erik Larson and Scott Turow. #CSLA16 📚👏🏻🏆🎖🏅

HOG Butcher for the World,
Tool Maker, Stacker of Wheat,
Player with Railroads and the Nation's Freight Handler;
Stormy, husky, brawling,
City of the Big Shoulders:

They tell me you are wicked and I believe them, for I
have seen your painted women under the gas lamps
luring the farm boys.
And they tell me you are crooked and I answer: Yes, it
is true I have seen the gunman kill and go free to
kill again..

Readingrobin Wow! Love Sandburg so much! 8y

Windy City peeps: I'm going to a conference in Chicago at the end of September, and I won't have a lot of free time, but a visit to a great book store (or two) is a must. What's your favorite?

courtney Myopic and Volumes! Bonus: they are a block away from each other so you can do both ;) 8y
CherylDeFranceschi Myopic, Unabridged are both worth a visit. 8y
Imagineannie @courtney @CherylDeFranceschi thank you! I'll be based at the downtown location of Columbia College - can I walk or should I plan on finding a bus? 8y
CherylDeFranceschi You'll need transportation. I'd be happy to ferry you if timing works. Who doesn't love book shopping with bookish buddies? 8y
courtney That's where I went to school! Def a bus or uber. Volumes/myopic/quimbys are very close to the damen blue line stop! 8y

Legs hold a torso away from the earth. / And a regular high poem of legs is here. (From "The Walking Man of Rodin")
