Confectioner's Tale: A Novel of Paris
Confectioner's Tale: A Novel of Paris | Laura Madeleine
15 posts | 13 read | 22 to read
At the famous Patisserie Clermont, a chance encounter with the owner's daughter has given one young man a glimpse into a life he never knew existed: of sweet cream and melted chocolate, golden caramel and powdered sugar, of pastry light as air. But it is not just the art of confectionery that holds him captive, and soon a forbidden love affair begins.Almost eighty years later, an academic discovers a hidden photograph of her grandfather as a young man with two people she has never seen before. Scrawled on the back of the picture are the words Forgive me. Unable to resist the mystery behind it, she begins to unravel the story of two star-crossed lovers and one irrevocable betrayal."

PROMPT: FAVORITE TIME TRAVEL BOOK

THE CONFECTIONER'S TALE was a fun, breezy read for me even though it took a few chapters to get going.

I enjoyed the characters, the time travel, the delicious pastries, the mystery of what her grandfather had done, the love story, and a few other secrets.

And...you can‘t forget that GORGEOUS cover.

A lovely, romantic historical fiction read which took a few interesting and surprising turns. Unlike most dual-timeline books, I found the more modern sections of the book just as interesting as the historical parts. I didn't find the ending fully reasoned out, but it didn't affect my overall enjoyment. Will gladly read more from this author.

#junebookbugs For #sweet I've got the book I'm currently reading, and the last book I read. Both #historicalfiction , both full of deliciously sweet food descriptions.

A stunning debut novel, the imagery painted for this 1900‘s Paris patisserie is flawless. I fell in love with character Gui and his journey to discover how to create the perfect pastries. While this is a story about forbidden love, it simultaneously tells of a passion for pastries. From croquembouche to religieuse, “The Confectioner‘s Tale” will leave you with a delightful and dazzling craving for a true Paris patisserie.
