#Scarathlon Photo Challenge Day Five: Blood
The first two books, Hater and Dog Blood, were really good and such a neat concept. I feel like Mr. Moody really dropped the ball with Them or Us. Pity.

On to my next read! I‘ve already read 3 books this weekend. #weekender #weekendreads #hardcover #library #hater #davidmoody
This book is okay - I'd still like to read the second one and see how it turns out.
I like the concept of the group they call the "haters," I am a big zombie/apocalypse girl so it was appealing.
The main character, I had a hard time appreciating. He is very miserable. His pessimism was irritating at times, but the book is still exciting and violent and all of the other qualities that would make someone tilt their head at me with concern.

“Until now we‘ve discriminated against each other according to race, religion, age, gender and just about every other differentiation imaginable. Look around you tonight and you‘ll see that those differences are gone. Now...there is just “us and “them”, and it is impossible for us to coexist. We have no alternative but to fight, and we must keep fighting until we have wiped them out.”
Obviously I am not Guillermo del Toro & do not have his creative insight/vision bc I honestly cannot see what he does in this horror tale of societal collapse: For reasons unexplained, some people become vicious Haters, running around on the survival principle of, “Kill or be killed.” There‘s action & a huge twist, but it none of it plays out convincingly. What I thought in 2012 still stands:

A few years ago, I listened to the audio version of this book narrated by Gerard Doyle. The performance was great, but the overall story of a community infected by a rage virus, turning everyone into basically angry zombies, was only “meh.” I decided to re-read it because I found out that Guillermo del Toro is producing a film based on the book and so maybe I need to look at this again with fresh eyes.
There are some really hateful people in this world. Working with one of them is such a drain. It is one of this situations that if you gave them a million dollars they would have a fit because it was not a million and one instead. Sorry, I just don't get being that angry and hateful all the time.
