Half-Off Ragnarok
Half-Off Ragnarok: Book Three of InCryptid | Seanan McGuire
11 posts | 15 read | 11 to read
What do gorgons, basilisks, and frogs with feathers all have in common? They're all considered mythological by modern science, and some people are working very hard to keep them that way. Alexander Price is a member of a cryptozoological lineage that spans generations, and it's his job to act as a buffer between the human and cryptid worldsnot an easy task when you're dealing with women who has snakes in place of hair, little girls who may actually be cobras, and brilliant, beautiful Australian zookeepers. And then there's the matter of the murders... Alex thought he was choosing the easier career when he decided to specialize in non-urban cryptids, leaving the cities to his little sister, Verity. He had no idea what he was letting himself in for. It's a family affair, and everyonefrom his reanimated grandfather to his slightly broken telepathic cousinis going to find themselves drawn in before things get any better. Half-Off Ragnarok is the third installment of the highly praised InCryptid series.

Alex Price is just your regular reptile specialist, working with cryptids, basilisks, and gorgons. Things start to get dicey when something starts petrifying people at the zoo he works at.

Delightful! A little info dump heavy, but that made sense for the character! Alex was funny and charming. Loved the expansion of the world, and more of the Price family! Was a little disappointed with the end reveal, but that‘s a minor nitpick. 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑

I‘m too tired after class today to plant these little guys, so they will have to wait another day. It looks like rain now anyway (excuse). Going to enjoy this IPA and my book until I get up the energy to shower - hot yoga is gross and exhausting!

Soubhiville Ew, I can‘t hang for hot yoga. Give me a nicely paced Vinyasa or a Slow flow and I‘m good. Good for you though! That‘s hard core! 6y
mcipher @Soubhiville They make us take it teacher training! Otherwise no way, not my thing. It is pretty hardcore! 😛 6y

Waiting to give blood at this crazy cool motorcycle dealership. Fingers crossed my iron is good this time - i got turned away last time I tried to donate.

Soubhiville Good luck! How do you like this series? 6y

Love ❤️ this series and my Edie-cat‘s current snuggly, purry mood. I want to read a few more chapters even though I‘m soooo drowsy and still need to do my yoga before bed - lap kitties make it easy to justify not getting up. #catsoflitsy #Edith

MinDea Hahaha. That looks like some side eye attitude! 😆😆 I call that #CatSitting --- when you have to get up to do something but can't cause...well a cat is sitting. 😆😆😆 6y
DebinHawaii Definite side eye going on! 🤣😼 6y
mcipher @MinDea @DebinHawaii The funny part is she looked at me and started purring. I think she just has RBF! 😂 6y
MinDea 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Cats are weird! 🤷 6y

HALF-OFF RAGNAROK is a bit different to the previous InCryptid books. Set in a zoo in Ohio, it doesn't have the urban snappiness of the other two books, but nevertheless remains fun. I wasn't entirely sold on Shelby's Australian-ness, but appreciated that she didn't fall into stereotypes and was more than simply her nationality. Besides, I'll forgive a lot in a book that makes me laugh out loud as many times as this one did.

As an Australian, this quote made me laugh.

Seekingtardis My brother lived there for 3 years and he would send me pictures of "random animals" that would have me throwing my phone!! #NOPE ?? 8y
earlgreyediting @Seekingtardis Your brother must take his duty to teasing his siblings very seriously. 😁 8y

Went to the library and swapped Francesca Haig's THE FIRE SERMON for a shiny new copy of HALF-OFF RAGNAROK by Seanan Mcguire. This was the only InCryptid book the library was missing, which is a bit weird considering it's the middle of the series. So they ordered it in for me. I love being the first one to crack the cover!
