Theodore Seuss Geisel Honor and Two-time Newbery Medal, published 2006. This is a silly story that‘s good for older grades. It‘s exciting and thrilling with lots of laughter involved. The illustrations also excite the reader and keeps them engaged.

“Is that pig… behind the wheel?” The picture that goes along with it makes it that much better. The pure joy and fun in her face while she‘s doing something not good makes me laugh so hard. It is a reminder to enjoy life (not necessarily the illegal things).

This book is so cute and funny! The illustrations keep the reader engaged as they are very animated and expressive. This is a great start to chapter book reading for children. They chapters are only a few pages long and with the illustrations make them shorter as well.

I used this book for a photochallenge prompt a couple of years back, and got a very enthusiastic response from parents/teachers in-the-know - so finally found a copy to read! Really fun early chapter book, with pictures that are just joyous. Mercy (the pig) wants to drive the car. What could possibly go wrong?!

Also, much toast.

We have had sick kids the last week and half, so we are reading a lot to pass some of the time. This series is great for beginner chapter readers and my 4 year old listens to this as well. Mercy Is such a cool pig.

From the two-time Newbery Medal Winner Kate DiCamillo comes the fictional story Mercy Watson Goes for a Ride, illustrated by Chris Van Dusen. This Theodor Seuss Geisel Honor Book is about a pig named Mercy who goes on a car ride every Saturday with Mr. Watson. One day Mercy finally gets her chance to drive, something she‘s always wanted but things don‘t go as planned for Mercy. Pick up this small chapter book to see what Mercy gets herself into...

DezireeLara This link is a read aloud for this fun book https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qTs8Zm_w04w UDL 1.1 Offer ways of customizing the display of information, is perfect for a read aloud. For ESOL students, a read aloud can help a student to understand through expressions and think pair shares. 5y
Bshelton27 I loved this book! It‘s an easy chapter book with smaller non intimidating chapter for young readers. I liked the read aloud that you found for this book! 5y
galacticbees This looks like such a cute book! It would be so great for RA. This book seems like its great for beginning level readers 5y
DrSpalding These are the perfect transitional chapter books for young readers. The content is fun and lighthearted… Just right for primary students! They make for a fun read alouds as well. 5y

This Theodor Seuss Geisel honor fictional story is a great beginning chapter book for younger grades. Mercy Watson Goes for a Ride by Kate DiCamillo is about a little pig who really wants to go for a ride and drive Mr. Watson‘s pink convertible. During their ride around town, Mercy finds a moment of opportunity to take the wheel! Read the book to find out what happens when a little pig takes control. This would be a fun book to RA in the front...

Bshelton27 Of the room. By doing this, UDL strategy 7.3 (minimize threats and distractions) and ESOL strategy 22( give enough wait time for second language learners to respond to questions) can be used. This website has 25 pages of activities that incorporate this story! The ideas are endless! http://www.candlewick.com/book_files/9999999902.kit.2.pdf #Ucflae3414su19 5y

This Fiction/ MF book written by Kate DiCamillo and illustrated by Chris Van Dusen has won the Theodor Seuss Geisel award. Mercy gets to go on a ride every Saturday in the car, but this Saturday Mercy doesn‘t want to sit in the passenger seat! Find out if Mercy gets her way in this hilarious book! I would use this as a read aloud! The students could benefit from the funny story, but also the message of safety first with a seatbelt. #UCFLAE3414SU19

Macker11 This book is a chapter book, but has tons of pictures which could fall into UDL 1.3 and 1.2. Students can hear and visually see what is going on in the story! Also, ESOL #1 could be used in relation to how the Officer questions and answers himself for clarification. Addressing these questions and providing feedback is a good lesson for kids to learn. https://www.teachingbooks.net/tb.cgi?tid=11022 tons or resources for this book! 5y
DrSpalding You have some of the best images to date! Thank you for being creative! I think you won this one, right? Teaching books is a good resource and again you are easily aligning universal design and English learner strategies to benefit all students. 5y

Mercy Watson Goes For a Ride by Kate DiCamillo is cute F book that would be a great RA. Mercy and her parents, Mr. And Mrs. Watson, always go for a ride every Saturday afternoon in their pink Cadillac after eating Mercy's favorite lunch - buttered toast! Every afternoon Mercy insists on driving but Mr. Watson won't allow it!.... But a surprise pops up in the back seat and Mercy somehow ends up behind the wheel and without a seatbelt to boot!!!

I needed something daft for today's prompt, and I want to believe the #Mercy Watson series is as fun as it looks.

Also, they have a stack of toast for the Home button on their website. Toast is severely underrated in website design - we need more buttons like that!

An #AugustGrrrl if ever I saw one. @Cinfhen

mom2bugnbee @RachelO @Cinfhen My 12yo owns every Kate DiCamillo book that has been written. Most of her works are for grades 3-5 (you've likely heard of Because of Winn Dixie, for example), but these Mercy Watson books are for lower grades. They are delightful. So sassy & funny -- definitely worth reading whether or not you have kids of that age! 7y
mom2bugnbee @RachelO And you'll understand the use of toast on the website once you read one. I've never been to the website, but your comment made me smile. You'll see. 😉 7y

This F book is about a toast loving pig named Mercy who goes for a ride every Saturday with Mr. Watson. All Mercy wants to do is drive the car and this Saturday she gets her chance! There's a reason pigs don't drive cars. Read this book and find out what happens. Here's some lesson plans to go along with this book http://www.candlewick.com/book_files/0763636444.btg.1.pdf #UCFLAE3414su17

DrSpalding I ❤️this series and the "toast loving ?"! Candlewick is an excellent publisher to turn to for teaching guides related to their books. 7y

Mercy may be a pig, but her owners treat her like a person, and hilarity ensues. The Mercy Watson series is one of our favorites. It's also my favorite series to recommend at the library for kiddos ready to listen to longer stories.
