The illustrations throughout the book made the story very enjoyable and added more humor to the story.
Theodore Seuss Geisel Honor and Two-time Newbery Medal, published 2006. This is a silly story that‘s good for older grades. It‘s exciting and thrilling with lots of laughter involved. The illustrations also excite the reader and keeps them engaged.
“Is that pig… behind the wheel?” The picture that goes along with it makes it that much better. The pure joy and fun in her face while she‘s doing something not good makes me laugh so hard. It is a reminder to enjoy life (not necessarily the illegal things).

This book is so cute and funny! The illustrations keep the reader engaged as they are very animated and expressive. This is a great start to chapter book reading for children. They chapters are only a few pages long and with the illustrations make them shorter as well.
Mercy Watson Goes For a Ride by Kate DiCamillo 2006. One of the books in the Mercy Watson series. This is a beginner chapter book that tells the story of a mischievous pig and her owner. They go for a ride Saturday afternoon and things take a turn when one unexpected thing happens time after time. Theodor Seuss Geisel Honor.
I used this book for a photochallenge prompt a couple of years back, and got a very enthusiastic response from parents/teachers in-the-know - so finally found a copy to read! Really fun early chapter book, with pictures that are just joyous. Mercy (the pig) wants to drive the car. What could possibly go wrong?!
Also, much toast.
We have had sick kids the last week and half, so we are reading a lot to pass some of the time. This series is great for beginner chapter readers and my 4 year old listens to this as well. Mercy Is such a cool pig.
From the two-time Newbery Medal Winner Kate DiCamillo comes the fictional story Mercy Watson Goes for a Ride, illustrated by Chris Van Dusen. This Theodor Seuss Geisel Honor Book is about a pig named Mercy who goes on a car ride every Saturday with Mr. Watson. One day Mercy finally gets her chance to drive, something she‘s always wanted but things don‘t go as planned for Mercy. Pick up this small chapter book to see what Mercy gets herself into...
This Theodor Seuss Geisel honor fictional story is a great beginning chapter book for younger grades. Mercy Watson Goes for a Ride by Kate DiCamillo is about a little pig who really wants to go for a ride and drive Mr. Watson‘s pink convertible. During their ride around town, Mercy finds a moment of opportunity to take the wheel! Read the book to find out what happens when a little pig takes control. This would be a fun book to RA in the front...
This Fiction/ MF book written by Kate DiCamillo and illustrated by Chris Van Dusen has won the Theodor Seuss Geisel award. Mercy gets to go on a ride every Saturday in the car, but this Saturday Mercy doesn‘t want to sit in the passenger seat! Find out if Mercy gets her way in this hilarious book! I would use this as a read aloud! The students could benefit from the funny story, but also the message of safety first with a seatbelt. #UCFLAE3414SU19
Mercy Watson Goes For a Ride by Kate DiCamillo is cute F book that would be a great RA. Mercy and her parents, Mr. And Mrs. Watson, always go for a ride every Saturday afternoon in their pink Cadillac after eating Mercy's favorite lunch - buttered toast! Every afternoon Mercy insists on driving but Mr. Watson won't allow it!.... But a surprise pops up in the back seat and Mercy somehow ends up behind the wheel and without a seatbelt to boot!!!
I needed something daft for today's prompt, and I want to believe the #Mercy Watson series is as fun as it looks.
Also, they have a stack of toast for the Home button on their website. Toast is severely underrated in website design - we need more buttons like that!
An #AugustGrrrl if ever I saw one. @Cinfhen
This F book is about a toast loving pig named Mercy who goes for a ride every Saturday with Mr. Watson. All Mercy wants to do is drive the car and this Saturday she gets her chance! There's a reason pigs don't drive cars. Read this book and find out what happens. Here's some lesson plans to go along with this book http://www.candlewick.com/book_files/0763636444.btg.1.pdf #UCFLAE3414su17
Finally another niece and nephew ready for Mercy !
Mercy may be a pig, but her owners treat her like a person, and hilarity ensues. The Mercy Watson series is one of our favorites. It's also my favorite series to recommend at the library for kiddos ready to listen to longer stories.
