This HF chapter book written by Lauren Tarshis takes place during WWII. This young boys village is taken over by Nazi‘s and his Jewish best friend has disappeared. Read the story to find out what he does and what his village goes through.
This would be an excellent novel for IR for your students. Once they start the book they won‘t want to put it down!
UDL Principle: 7.1
ESOL Strategy: 29

DezireeLara For the students who don‘t want to read the actual book they can listen to the audio version! https://www.audible.com/author/Lauren-Tarshis/B001JRRKRE 5y

UDL Principle 2.1 clarify vocabulary and symbols
ESOL strategy 11 and 12 can be satisfied because of the different...

Wonder | R. J. Palacio

Pickpick

This RF novel written by R.J. Palacio tells a story about a boy named Auggie who doesn‘t look exactly like the average student in your classroom. The students at his new school must learn to accept others for who they are, not what they look like. This novel challenges students to “choose kind”, a concept brought to the students by their teacher.
https://anneumonic.wordpress.com/2015/02/24/lit-circle-journal-wonder-by-r-j-pal...

DezireeLara The link takes you to discussion questions that can be used in the classroom for the students when they meet in LCs. UDL Principle 2.4 can be used for this novel, the students can read the book in LCs and then watch the movie at the end to see the adaptation of the film. A great idea for after can be a Venn diagram to compare and contrast the novel to the film. ESOL strategy that can be used it small groups to discuss the novel. #ucflae3414su19 5y
alexialovesmith I‘m reading this book for the independent read assignment! I love it so far. I love your idea about using a vent diagram to compare and contrast the movie and the book. Watching the movie after reading the book is an excellent idea as well. Great post! 5y

This Caldecott Medal is a hilarious story about farm animals that have a typewriter and leave notes for the farmer. Doreen Cronin writes a F story perfect for RA. #ucflae3414su19
