This SF novel, Brave New World by Aldous Huxley is perfect for LC. This was my favorite book that by Sci-Fi Literature class read in high school. It‘s about a dystopian society where Henry Ford‘s assembly line is revered as a god-like. I loved this book in high school and decided to reread it in college. The amount of politics in this book that I didn‘t notice before is unreal. You won‘t be able to put this short SF novel down by the amazing George Orwell. This HF Newbery Honor is a great book for IR. I read it on my own this semester and couldn‘t put it down. The story of young Ada and her brother in a time of war tugs at your heart strings. The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein is a New York Times Outstanding Book Award Winner (1974). This is a perfect book for storytelling! Having students interact with the storytelling through pictures of the tree and boy getting older and the bond they share. Students will feel the connection between the two. This RF novel written by R.J. Palacio tells a story about a boy named Auggie who doesn‘t look exactly like the average student in your classroom. The students at his new school must learn to accept others for who they are, not what they look like. This novel challenges students to “choose kind”, a concept brought to the students by their teacher.

In fifth grade, I absolutely loved this story! The Newbery Honor is about a young boy name Tim Meeker whose brother Sam enlists in the new American Revolutionary Army. What Tim didn‘t realize was that his brother and father would end up rooting for opposing teams, Tim is torn between who to support.
