Sexing the Cherry | 
so-soI‘m really not quite sure what I read. This is a strange novel that includes different timelines, mostly in the 1600s but also the 1990s, as well as a fairy tale retelling. We get this story mostly through the alternating perspectives of Jordan, a boy rescued from the Thames, and Dog Woman, the woman who rescues and raises him. Their stories include sex, violence, humor, and some quotable lines.

panJeanette Winterson is one of my favorite authors. This is my fourth book by the author and my least favorite by far. The story is not linear and changes perspectives between Jordan and Dog-woman. I was not engaged in story what so ever, I just wanted it to be over. #1001
The twelve dancing princesses was one of my favourite tales as a child. I always liked that in the version I knew the successful suitor didn't marry the youngest or prettiest princess but the oldest because he thought they would suit each other best.
So my #fairytaleretelling for #booked2019 is Sexing the Cherry, which is partially inspired by this tale.
I am about halfway through and really enjoying it.

I love Jeanette Winterson but this cover design is so late-80‘s it hurts. Yeesh.

pickLoved this book. The way Winterson makes you dive into a fantastic world where you wonder what is real and what is not, is masterful.
so-soThere are novels by Winterson that I like better than this one. This is a kind of weird novel, though with beautiful thoughts and observations, as timeless as the world she describes in the book.

This is on my TBR, so I cannot tell why the illustration shows a person holding a pineapple instead of..a cherry, perhaps? I'm pretty sure it's of significance..
