This was a soft pick for me. Complicated story of family secrets set in multiple timelines. Complicated sibling relationships. Complicated parent/child relationships. Complicated spousal relationships. The most interesting bit for me surrounded one of the sisters working for the Betty Crocker brand in the 30‘s. I will definitely be looking more into that history.
Thanks to #netgalley for the opportunity to read this book. The story is set in the 1920s and 30s. It tells tale of 2 sisters, June and Ruth. Everything goes right for June, everything goes wrong for Ruth. Ruth has always wanted what June has. Their mother Dorothy was never really there for them, even though she raised them well. Ruth lives on a farm a out to collapse, June is married⤵️
I know you aren‘t supposed to judge a book by its cover, but when I‘m searching the shelves I so often choose books based on first appearances. This had everything I love in a book...historical setting, scandal, strong females, and a storyline that moved back and forth between the past and present.
Just finished this one -- got it as an ARC and am blatantly late in reading it -- but it was good!
I‘ve read and enjoyed a few of Lynn Cullen‘s novels and this was no exception. What I particularly enjoyed this time was the unique time, place, and situations within the story, namely how one of the characters was a Betty Crocker (who knew that wasn‘t a real person!) and how one of the husbands have a mysterious sleeping sickness I had never heard of. I was a little frustrated with the women at times but other than that loved it! 🌟🌟🌟🌟
#book mail from Friday. Great cover but not my type of book. So to the RFS pile it goes.
I‘m so excited!! This is the second book I‘ve won from Goodreads in the last few months after years with no wins! I also loved Lynn Cullen‘s first two books so I know I‘ve got hours of entertainment to look forward to!
