Continuing my TBR project:
This is one of the oldest selections on my TBR list - Originally added November 11, 2017.

Set against the backdrop of the historic 1927 flooding of the Mississippi River, The Tilted World is an extraordinary tale of murder and moonshine, sandbagging and saboteurs, and a man and a woman who find unexpected love.

The Mississippi Flood of 1927 affected an estimated 630,000 people, disproportionately displacing African-Americans with devastating effects. This book doesn't highlight that, but I found it a riveting story of a town's experience with the rising water amidst moonshining, possible murder, federal agents, orphaned baby, & female MC claiming her strength. Coincidentally, I just finished a lovely poetry collection with a similar title. Seems fitting.

lynneamch Previously posted #poetry collection under Taylor's earlier work as this newer one wasn't in the Litsy database yet. 4y

This was a pick, but not 5 stars. It could have used better editing. There were moments of beautiful prose, but also moments that dragged. Much of the last few chapters was unbelievable- as in, how could you hang on to a tree above a raging flood with a broken arm, two broken ribs, etc. But it made me interested in the history of the flood . Perhaps better read than audio.

My current audiobook is well written and a good story, but I'm not in love with the narrator. I may have to actually read this instead of #listen. #30daysofreadathon @DeweysReadathon

LeahBergen I have this book sitting on my TBR. 7y

Beth Ann and Tom signed this for me. Beth Ann signed it first and then a couple hours later Tom signed it during his signing time. You cannot read it, but Tom signed it: Tom Franklin who wrote about 15%. #msbookfestival #literarylawnparty

BookishBelle Hey! I was there today! 😊 7y
LisaJo @BookishBelle oh no. We missed an opportunity for Littens meet up. I hope you had as much fun as I did. Mississippi puts on a great book party. 7y
BookishBelle Yeah, that stinks!! I wish we could have met up! I live here in Jackson. Where are you from? 7y
LisaJo @BookishBelle I live outside of Birmingham Alabama. Mississippi's book festival is too awesome to miss. 7y

Mehso-so

My bulletin board at work. 🐢
Well, this could have been better. I wanted to like it more than I actually did. For some reason I wasn't that invested in the characters, but I like them from a distance. Lol, I can't really describe it. However the ending did pick up for me. So-so. Let's see what everyone else says on Monday for #bookclub 🤷🏼‍♀️

How can one resist a book with this in the description: "... tale of murder and moonshine, sandbagging and saboteurs, and a man and a woman who find unexpected love..." ?? I loved Crooked Letter, Crooked Letter and picked this book up.... really enjoyed it..... not an all time fav but a good read and different from a lot of books I've read. Looking for suggestions for similar books!

A quick read, a tale tied up with a neat bow. It was entertaining, but not as page turning as Crooked Letter.

This was a very enjoyable read. The story takes place around the time of prohibition and the great Mississippi flood of 1927. I adored the main character, Dixie Clay. This is a tale of bootleggers, moonshine, saboteurs, revenuers, and unexpected love.

BookBabe Oooh, sounds awesome! 🍸 8y

Page 55 and I'm struggling. It has all the elements- impending flood disaster, missing prohibition agents, orphan child ... but the period language makes for a clunky and slow read and I've started skipping pages.

[DELETED] 3558467437 Good luck 😬 9y
Suzy200 I made it to page 132 before giving up. It was just too heavy going with characters I didn't understand or care about. Disappointed. 9y
