The Carpet Makers
The Carpet Makers | Andreas Eschbach
6 posts | 6 read | 1 reading | 4 to read
Since the time of pre-history, carpetmakers tie intricate knots to form carpets for the court of the Emperor. These carpets are made from the hairs of wives and daughters; they are so detailed and fragile that each carpetmaker finishes only one single carpet in his entire lifetime. This art descends from father to son, since the beginning of time itself. But one day the empire of the God Emperor vanishes, and strangers begin to arrive from the stars to follow the trace of the hair carpets. What these strangers discover is beyond all belief, more than anything they could have ever imagined... Brought to the attention of Tor Books by Orson Scott Card, this edition of The Carpet Makers contains a special introduction by Orson Scott Card.

Mehso-so

This was waaaaay darker than I had anticipated so it took me a bit to really get into it. The narrative structure was more like several vignettes loosely connected to one another with each chapter coming from the point of view of a different character not necessarily related to the character from before. I can see that it was crafted carefully and skillfully but it just wasn't my kind of book.

#BookReport
I wasn't feeling my forecasted books this week so I went off script and read the two books in the philosopher's series. I really enjoyed them and hope more come out soon.

#WeeklyForecast
My goal for this week is to finish my #CalibreRoulette pick and then get into the October picks for the SFFBC on goodreads.

#BookReport
I've had probably my best reading week in months with a total of five books finished. I really enjoyed most of them and managed to complete two trilogies in my quest to finish series I've started.
#WeeklyForecast
My next reading goals are to finish up my #CalibreRoulette pick for the month and then head on to the monthly picks for the SFFBC on goodreads.

Pickpick

One of the best SF books - beautifully written / translated with unique situations and memorable characters. A tale of absolute power.
Probably initially stories, linked together.
