While a naturally enjoyable tale of the breaking of one of the sports world's longest-standing curses, I ultimately found this one hard to get through. This was thanks, in large part, to the proliferation of - pardon the pun - inside baseball that ran rampant through the pages. The frequent use of jargon made the action difficult to follow. Despite this, King and O'Nan are engaging writers, and their disbelief and eventual joy are palpable. 4/5

This weird winter weather has me counting down the hours until opening day. I decided re-listening to this fan diary from the 2004 season would help. It was a fun walk down memory lane.

Cinfhen Such an interesting author pairing😉 1y
MaureenMc As a lifelong Cardinals fan, I want you to know how hard it was for me to “❤️” this post. 😆 1y

F is for Faithful, the non-fiction book Stephen wrote with Stewart O‘Nan. This is a book where they Chronicle the 2004 season for his beloved Boston Red Sox.

AmyG My friend used to work for the Red Sox and saw SK there all the time. I was so jealous. ;) 6y
GarthRanzz Cars, music and baseball. The King trinity. Great choice! 6y
Andrew65 @GarthRanzz It certainly seems to sum him up. 6y

Read this for the #readharder prompt "a book about sports" and man, it d r a g g e d. I'm only a casual Red Sox fan and the target audience for this was definitely diehards only. All the inning by inning recaps were a snoozefest! ?

The only redeeming parts were King's and O'Nan's descriptions of the unique Fenway experience and their discussions of what it means to be an obsessive fan. Sadly, these parts were few and far between.

missevievelyn Great review! Is it weird that you made me really want to read this ahaha? I love the minutiae of baseball 7y
danimgill @missevievelyn Thanks! And not weird at all haha you're probably exactly who this was intended for if that's the case 😉 I hope you enjoy it whenever you do read it! 7y

How could I live here and NOT pick something about the Red Sox as my "book about sports" for the #readharder challenge? ☀️⚾️❤️

I love King and would read his grocery list, so it takes a lot for me to leave an SK book unread. Buuuuttt... a nonfiction baseball story couldn't sound more boring to me. 😬 After a page I thought 'Nah, I'll read this one later.' But still it sits, lonely on my shelf. ⚾️😴🙅🏼#stephenking17 #DNF #day7

Bostonmomx2 Just watch the movie Fever Pitch with Drew Barrymore, it's so good and you'll get all the highlights of the Sox' 2004 season 😂⚾️❤ 7y
AGirlAndHerBooks @Bostonmomx2 I like your plan better! 😂 7y
Bostonmomx2 @AGirlAndHerBooks I keep the movie on my TiVo and watch it all the time. Jimmy Fallon is just great in it. Even if you aren't a baseball fan, it's a super fun movie. 7y

"There's really nothing on God's earth like being at a ballpark and getting on your feet in the bottom of the ninth, hot dog still in hand, when the Sox pull one out. If Heaven's that good, I guess I wanna go."

Favorite stop on the way to Boston and Fenway Park- Traveler Restaurant where you can get excellent food and walk out with three free books.
