The Secrets of Lost Stones
The Secrets of Lost Stones | Melissa Payne
12 posts | 11 read | 13 to read
A soul-stirring novel about the bonds between mother and child and the redemption that comes with facing the past and letting it go. Thirty-two-year-old Jess Abbot has lost everything: her job, her apartment, and--most heart-wrenching--her eight-year-old son, Chance, to a tragic accident. Haunted by memories and grief, Jess packs what's left and heads for the small mountain town of Pine Lake, where she takes a position as caregiver to an eccentric old woman. A rumored clairvoyant, Lucy is strange but welcoming and immediately intuits Jess as a "loose end" in need of closure. But Jess isn't the only guest in Lucy's large Victorian home. There's also Star, a teenage runaway with a secret too painful to share. And the little boy with heart-shaped stones, who comes with a hope for reconciliation--and a warning. Soon Jess learns that she's not the only lost soul running from the ghosts of the past. She and Star have been brought together for a reason: to be saved by the very thing that destroyed them.

This was a fast, easy, heartfelt read with a nice twist toward the end. Lucy a 'witch', Jess a young woman who lost her son to a tragic accident, and Star a homeless teen. They all find each other and are connected in ways none saw possible. Cute story, a bit slow and repetitive in certain parts. Characters were a tad flat, overall enjoyable read!

Round Two: The Secrets of Lost Stone. I found this book on a donation rack at my local library for just a quarter. Anyone read this? Thoughts?

This Kindle Unlimited book fits into so many categories: Mystery, Thriller, Magical Realism, Family ...

After the death of her 8-year-old son, Jess packs up her things and heads for the small mountain town of Pine Lake. There she takes a position as caregiver to Lucy, an eccentric old woman rumored to be clairvoyant. Lucy takes in “lost “ children and help them find their “loose ends”. It all comes together quite nicely at the end of the book.

This caught me off guard. This debut novel was my Amazon Prime monthly pick (I just got a new Kindle Fire, so I've just started taking advantage of that feature); I chose it because I love magical realism. I highly recommend this if you enjoy that genre. Lovely, heart-wrenching, lovable characters, & kept me guessing until the end.

Not bad, kept me up a little past my bed time a few nights. I liked the storyline except the whole calendar and crosswords. Lucy seemed a little batty and Jess was just clueless.
