A brilliant debut novel from a talented indie author. This novel follows a lovely couple on their vacation to a family cabin in the woods. Someone or something wants in & will stop at nothing to get what it wants, even if that means following them wherever they go. Filled with horror and gruesome scenes this one will leave you with a phobia into the dark.
⭐ ⭐ ⭐ http://suspensebookreviews.home.blog/2021/12/08/desperation-by-stephen-king/
Classic King tropes of people being trapped and good vs evil. This time a highway leads to Desperation, a small town haunted by an ancient evil. A group of strangers must work together to escape their death. Gruesome, detailed, and suspenseful. A bit heavy on the religion, God, and references in the second part for my liking, however.
My current read for my #HalloweenReads and this one is definitely in my top five of most creepy books read. I‘m never ‘scared‘ of books I read or movies I watch, but some give me serious goosebumps. The Exorcist is one of those books, so many goosebumps! 😱👻

Wow! I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this novel! This story follows the Graves family as they move into Mr. Graves's old family home. Little did this family know that there are secrets buried here that refuse to rest. Unleashing a devilish turn of events that will change their lives in ways they never saw coming. #halloweenread
🌟 https://suspensebookreviews.home.blog/2021/10/18/dead-inside-by-chandler-morriso...
Poorly done splatterpunk novel. Nothing more than shock value. There was a lack of plot and character development. Overall an incredibly disturbing, taboo read. *Massive trigger warnings*
⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ https://suspensebookreviews.home.blog/2021/10/05/hex-by-thomas-olde-heuvelt/
A great twist to the classic haunting trope. A small town is cursed by an ancient witch whose eyes and mouth are sewn shut. The witch can show up anywhere from the end of your bed to under the street light. Creepy, dark, and a fresh take on hauntings, HEX is a must-read for all horror lovers. A great addition to your Halloween Read Pile!

A marvelous story about a boy, Weylyn, raised by wolves who also possess magical powers, and owns a pet pig with a unique horn. This was such a touching tale of an extraordinary boy told through the view of those who loved him. Showcasing Weylyn's life from childhood to adulthood. Hearttouching and magical! *Library Book Box pick*

An intense psychological thriller about a US Marshal Teddy and his partner who are sent to Shutter Island, where a psychiatric hospital holds the most notorious criminally insane. Among these inmates is a woman Rachel, the most dangerous on the island. On their search for Rachel, Teddy learns truths about not only the island, but also himself.

An easy light gothic tale about a woman, Hallie, who inherits her dead mother's Victorian home. Hallie living her life believing her mother died when she was 5 soon finds herself on a mysterious island, learning unbelievable truths about her family and past. Filled with ghosts, witches, and an eerie setting. Enjoyable, but not great.

Team 5 star! WOW!! What a poetic, stunning, elegantly written novel about a young woman's life. A beautiful coming-of-age tale set in a marsh, with such detail I could not help but feel I was there. Developed, lovable characters, marvelous storyline, a heartfelt tale of one woman's survival after being abandoned by her family.
⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ https://suspensebookreviews.home.blog/2021/08/09/jaws-by-peter-benchley/
I loved the movie adaptation, the novel did not disappoint either. A man-eating shark terrorizes the small town of Amity. The rein of terror causes countless deaths and poses other problems for this beach town. Officer Cheif Brody attempts to find a way to put a stop to the shark attacks. Great read!

What a great horror novel! This had it all, ghosts, mystery, and thrills. The story centers around Carly a young woman who is determined to find out what happened to her Aunt Viv who disappeared 35 years earlier. The last known place, The Sun Down Motel, which proves to have secrets of its own. A chilling tale with a shocking ending.

This was my second attempt at reading this book, I am SO HAPPY I came back to it! I loved it! There was not a battle as much as there was a game, so I would take the summary lightly. It read like a fairy-tale for adults and I was utterly captivated by the circus and beautiful descriptions. Very much a setting/plot-based novel.
🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 https://suspensebookreviews.home.blog/2021/07/27/it-by-stephen-king/
A classic King horror novel. Town kids are terrorized by a demon clown (Pennywise), they form a powerful friendship, all are outcasts and attempting to survive IT. As they join together to survive as kids, they soon learn IT is back 30 years later. Having to uphold a promise made as children, they all return to their hometown to defeat IT one last time.
I am a huge King fan, he is my favorite author. Enjoying this classic creepy tale. Is it Halloween yet?
🌟 🌟 🌟 https://suspensebookreviews.home.blog/2021/07/09/the-library-of-the-dead-by-t-l-...
I was a bit disappointed in this one. I loved the idea of Ropa being a ghost talker, I enjoyed the plot too. My problem laid with the fact Ropa is a teen and the narration is the first person, so it comes off extremely tweeny. I'm not a fan of YA and had no idea this was a YA novel (it was in the adult section at my library). I could not get into it.
🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 https://suspensebookreviews.home.blog/2021/07/07/the-viscount-who-loved-me-bridg...
Such a fun, light read! I wasn't a fan of the first (Daphne's Story) but this one made up for all the first was lacking. I enjoyed Anthony's character as well as his love interests Kate. Kate was such a witty woman, I adored her. I enjoyed the back story to the late Mr. Bridgerton as well.
After a wicked slasher novel I decided to lighten my reading up a bit with Bridgerton #2 The Viscount Who Loved Me. I am looking forward to something light and fluffy before I dive into a couple dark fantasy novels. What do you think of the Bridgerton series?

Bloody horror! If you do not LOVE old slasher films like Freddy, Jason, Halloween, this book is not for you. MC Jade refrences movies, names, actors and scenes from some of Hollywoods greatest films as she tries to uncover the truth behind the brutal slayings happening in her hometown. As a horror junkie this was a must read!
Newest read: My Heart is a Chainsaw by Stephen Graham Jones. I love all things horror so this book is definitely for me! Excited for this one!

🌟 🌟 🌟 https://suspensebookreviews.home.blog/2021/06/29/ordinary-grace-by-william-kent-...
This was a gracefully put-together novel, the writing was so elegant. The characters were portrayed with such realness that I felt as if I was with Frank and his brother Jake from page one. The relationship between the brothers was extremely realistic as well. The story fell flat for me though, never picking up. It's more of a coming-of-age story.
Current Read: Ordinary Grace by William Kent Krueger - This was a 'Book of the Month' pick for my reading group. Finally got to reading it before the month ends and I'm hooked! What mesmerizing writing! Curious to see how this story plays out.
https://suspensebookreviews.home.blog/2021/06/23/a-man-called-ove-by-fredrik-bac...
What an emotional book this turned out to be. I loved Ove! I had a difficult time putting this one down, I was completely captivated by Ove's life. This story was sad, funny, but most of all wondrous. Ove was so much more than met the eye, unfolding so many layers of a wonderful character. Great read.
🌟 🌟 🌟 https://suspensebookreviews.home.blog/2021/06/13/the-ghost-variations-by-kevin-b...
I went into this believing it was 100 scary ghost stories, when in fact this was 100 different ways someone can become a ghost; ghosts of our former selves; ghosts of our pasts. Some were funny, most were thought-provoking. All of them were just two pages long, however. Not bad a read, if you are looking for creepy this is not the book.
At it again with my second attempt reading this thick read. I am buddy reading it with a group of others in hopes that I can get through it. I have made it further than I did the first time around, reaching over 100 pages, yet I still find it to be rather difficult to get into. I would like to finish it as I keep hearing such raving reviews. Here's to attempt two.
http://suspensebookreviews.home.blog/2021/06/08/the-virgin-suicides-by-jeffrey-e...
What a beautifully dark novel about five sisters who live a sheltered life under the rule of a strict mother and aloof father. Narrated by the boys in the neighborhood who loved them from a far as they retell the year the sisters committed suicide one by one. A classic tale that was elegantly written with bold characters.
https://suspensebookreviews.home.blog/2021/06/02/the-song-of-achilles-by-madelin...
What a wonderful retelling of a classic tale! My only regret is not reading this sooner. I loved how indepth the characters were, the story unfolded beautifully. Miller really did her research for this book. I loved learning of new and old Gods as well. Highly recommend to historical fiction lovers, those looking for a romance, or Greek Mythology.
Life got so busy!!! Behind on reviews, but currently reading The Virgin Suicides. Wanted to share this though, my local library is doing The Perfect Match Book Box. Once a month you pick up your box, inside a book and treats! I got seeds, garden gloves, chocolates, and coupons for two free ice cream cones plus a hand picked book from staff that I can keep up to four weeks! Thought this was such a fun idea 🥰
I am taking a break from my Book Spinner & reading off my Mother's Day book haul. First up, We Were The Mulvaneys by Joyce Carol Oates. I remember watching the movie many years ago, I'm glad to have come across the book now.
💫💫💫💫💫 https://suspensebookreviews.home.blog/2021/05/11/the-invisible-life-of-addie-lar...
What an unbelievable read! A young woman, a deal with the Devil, a 300 year life as a human ghost until Addie meets a man with a secret as deep as hers. With an ending that left me in tears, what a beautiful story! I wish I could go back & read this again for the first time. Magical characters mixed with elegant writing. A favorite.
BOOK SPIN PICK: The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab
This is a long standing TBR book of mine. It sounded so interesting that I could not resist checking it out! I've actually already started and I am enjoying it a lot!
⭐⭐⭐⭐ https://suspensebookreviews.home.blog/2021/05/05/thirteen-reasons-why-by-jay-ash...
This is a YA novel following Hannah Baker after her suicide. She leaves behind 13 tapes, each focusing on a person and their actions leading to her decision. Being listened to by a fellow student he learns truths about lies, gossip, rape, and more. A heavy hitter. A must read.
Book Spin Pick: THIRTEEN REASONS WHY by JAY ASHER - Not much of a YA fan, but this book is powerful! Heavy, tough topics, but things that need to addressed and talked about so much more than they are. Haven't been able to put this one down. I was also a fan of the series.
Unpopular Opinion: Did not live up to the hype. It was all extreme detail of setting with underdeveloped, flat characters. I felt new characters were introduced every chapter. I found myself confused and bored. The storyline was not consistent. Nice writing with great detail, but that's all this was. Did not match the synapse on back ... Extremely disappointed.
Book Spin Pick: THE NIGHT CIRCUS by ERIN MORGENSTERN
I have been so eager to read this book! I hope it is as good as I believe it is going to be!
⭐⭐⭐⭐ https://suspensebookreviews.home.blog/2021/04/27/the-boy-who-followed-his-father...
A well written true story that was professionally researched. This was a nonfiction history story about a family's experiences during World War II, it follows father and son as they are sent to concentration camps together. Powerful read about strength, love, and survival.
Book Spin Pick: THE BOY WHO FOLLOWED HIS FATHER INTO AUSCHWITZ by JEREMY DRONFIELD - I was really struggling with my last pick, the writing was too formal for me and it centered around a womans loss. Possibly something for another time? I've been wanting to read this one for awhile and love Historical Fiction, happy with this spin.
"Chaps always told Mother and me books were minds on the shelf."
On the fence about this one, the writing is rather formal and the story seems more about a young womans loss of her mother. Then how she moves to New York to start a life on her own. However, there are some really amazing quotes throughout.
Book Spin Pick: THE SECRET OF LOST THINGS by SHERIDAN HAY. Stumbled upon this novel at Half Priced Books and it just sounded so interesting. A mystery type story in a book shop filled with misfits. Hope it is as good as it sounded.
