When Queen Samara Rani fulfills the promise she made to Emperor Valentin Kos to visit his court and meet with his advisors, she knows they wont welcome her with open arms, especially when shes been tasked with discovering the traitors within their rankstraitors she tricked out of five million credits. As soon as Samara begins her investigation it becomes clear that Valentins advisors want her gone and they arent picky about how. After their tactics turn violent, Samara and Valentin race to unravel the web of treachery and lies before the next attack ends in tragedy. When the conflict escalates in ferocity and rumors start blaming Samara, she is forced to continue her hunt alone. Uncovering traitors is difficult when courtiers learn to lie before they learn to walk, and one misstep could cost her life. However, Rogue Queens arent easy to kill and Samara has more than a few tricks of her own.

Jessie Mihalik became an auto-buy author for me before her first novel was ever published (thank you, Ilona Andrews). This novella immediately follows The Queen‘s Triumph and shows Samara digging into the court intrigues of the Kos Empire. I wish it had been a full-length novel! I have #3 on order now. #seriesread2021 #bookspinbingo (passed the halfway point on my board but still no bingo!)
And..I can‘t tag anyone. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Anyone else leaning towards shorter reads lately?

Enjoyed this longer novella/short book 2 (approximately 200 pages), not unexpected since I liked the first. This story continues directly after book 1, and satisfied a penchant for reading about a kickass woman. 4/5

A fun second book in this series... Queen Rani visits Emperor Valentin to help him determine who is trying to assassinate him and undermine his reign. You def have to read the previous book to understand this one. #romantsy

The sequel to Mihalik's Queen's Gambit, this #romantsy novella picks right up and dives right into court intrigue. Who wants Valentin dead? Samara needs to figure it out before assassins succeed.
