Just finished this and it was okay. There were some really stupid plot points and decisions made but it was tolerable. This and the other two novels following it also seem to be taking place and are the cause of the events in The Out of the Abyss module. (My OOTA campaign is on a hiatus currently, but it's so amusing to me that my characters are unfortunately there to experience all of that mess)

Doppoetry I'll be taking a bit of a break from Drizzt, and reading some poetry collections. 15h
Doppoetry I hope this will also mean I have more time to read physical books. 15h

Another bonkers adventure with Carl, Princess Donut and friends. This one took inspiration from Magic the Gathering and Pokemon. The game play doesn‘t always make sense, but the characters and true stakes for all involved continues to make this a new favorite series! 4.5⭐️

Last week was very off for me. I got very little reading done due to fatigue and things out of my control. Made little progress with Archmage, and was too tired for any physical reads. I hope this week will go better.

I am still struggling to find time to sit down and read WFTD, but I am aiming for next week. In the meantime I am continuing my Drizzt book binge, they are ones I can kind of zone out on and it wouldn't make much of a difference, so I listen to them when I play my fav MMO.

Doppoetry I also picked up JS&MN because of a book club discussion VOD I was watching (for Lud in the Mist) and one of the hosts mentioned how they got similar vibes from JS&MN. Having gotten through the first chapter I can attest to it being pretty whimsical and absolutely having similar vibes. 2w
TieDyeDude I've heard good things about Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell, but it's a bit of a clunker, so I have to plan out time to be able to really dig into it. 2w
Doppoetry @TieDyeDude I generally don't really mind clunky books if they're well written (I love Tolkien) so I'm sure I'll do well with it. I also find it easier to get audiobooks of those kinds of books to make it easier and read along with a physical/digital copy. 2w

This was one of the better ones in the series. at least one character finally got it through their head that Genocide Is Bad, Actually. MC really got on my nerves through this series, a bit less so in this particular installment.

I, in general, l don't like how he's written (omniscient yet substantial, having all the life experience and wisdom, yet learning basic life lessons like “not everyone is a bad person because of their background“

Doppoetry Yes, this is a fantasy world where everyone has a specific alignment towards either good, evil, or neutrality, But must we debate this every few books? MC is “good“ but his goodness feels surface level, even for his particular alignment. I simply don't subscribe to the notion that he is the only “good“ dark elf.

I actually know this factually, because this author has some weird hatred towards the only good goddess for the dark elves.
2w
Doppoetry Probably because he can't handle the fact that his beloved dark elf character isn't as special a boy as he is presenting him. 2w

A ship of imprisoned dissidents arrives on an extrasolar labor camp and research station known as Kiln, victims of the authoritarian Mandate regime and its insistence on adherence to orthodoxy. Arton is a biologist and finds the native ecology fascinating, even as he learns more about its effects on contaminated humans. A gripping and inventive account of resistance in the face of an authoritarian regime and the power of truth in the face of lies.

CatLass007 I have this author on my radar. He‘s on a list of authors whose books I want to try. Unfortunately there‘s only one book in my local library by him and it‘s the first bookin a trilogy. But this sounds like an excellent book and I can buy it if I want to or not because I don‘t know if I could necessarily afford to. 3w

There is a lot to unpack here. Aside from being repetitive, this one and the previous book deal with themes of good vs evil, but they lean more towards trying to justify heinous actions because the characters we follow are “good“ and the enemy is “Bad“ As readers we know that there is a third party that manipulates things from the shadows. But certain good characters claiming it's okay to slaughter the enemies because they are evil is gross to me.

Doppoetry Basically, in the past, there was a group of orcs and half-orcs that wanted to settle in a region and the dwarves were not fans but were made to sign a peace agreement. But now the third party basically causes the ancestors of those orcs to change command and attack peaceful settlements, causing a war, and then the dwarves who were opposed to the peace become trigger-happy and use that as an excuse to resume fighting. 3w
Doppoetry As far as the reader is aware, there are still peaceful orcs and half-orcs in said settlement, but it's overshadowed by the malcontented orcs who want to go back to the way things were.

A lot of mixed feelings about this book.

Last week was a slow reading week, but I made progress with the tagged book and finished The Aeneid. I still need to take notes on 5 of the books, but I am satisfied with having finished it. Next week I will be starting Witness because I really want to catch up to the series before the new book comes out.
