Ahhhh the soap opera that is SVH. While entertaining, there has definitely been a need to suspend reality in the last half dozen books in the series, and this one fits that bill too. Jessica seems to be a much more serious version of herself and Elizabeth much more judgmental. You could argue that there is good reason for that to support the story, but it‘s off-putting.
