It‘s the first time Ned‘s parents come for a visit in the #SVH series! They‘re here for 3 weeks from their small MI town & the twins are delighted—though Alice feels left out & unneeded. But the real focus is Droids drummer Emily Mayer & her stepmonster, Karen (the origin of today‘s Karens?). Karen‘s making Emily‘s life hell & her father is too blinded by new love to see how miserable his daughter is. Liz intervenes but Grandma W is the real hero!

JenlovesJT47 @TorieStorieS yes!! I also used to get quite a lot of them at Walmart. That was the place to get the new ones, and Waldenbooks was the place to find the earlier books. I used to love going to the library with my grandma because they had so many displays of Sweet Valley books! 3mo

TorieStorieS I would also get them from Venture (kind of like a Walmart that was closer to where we lived)! And one year, my dad and I went to Hawaii and it rained so much on Maui that we bought an extra suitcase for all the Sweet Valley books I bought!! 🤣 3mo

TorieStorieS Somewhere, there‘s a picture of me standing next to the stack, and it was almost as tall as me! But I have never been tall, so it‘s not as many as it sounds! 🤣 3mo

This is a fun SVH Christmas book. Todd is still in Vermont & is coming to see Liz over the break. But she‘s not sure if they still have that spark anymore. Meanwhile, Suzanne Devlin, who terrorized Liz & her friends the last time she visited, is coming for Christmas. She says she‘s changed & is sorry & wants to make it up to everyone, but Jess doesn‘t buy it. She comes up with some pretty mean pranks to try to get her to leave. But Suzanne has ⬇️

JenlovesJT47 A secret: she has multiple sclerosis & doesn‘t want anyone to know. One of Jess‘s pranks backfires badly when Suzanne mixes champagne & her experimental medication & she wrecks the Fiat. Oh, & she & Todd kind of have a thing for each other & Liz gives her blessing in the end. Oh oh, & she doesn‘t actually have MS, the doctors misdiagnosed her & she will be fine. I expect nothing less from Sweet Valley. 😆 4⭐️ 80 points 13mo

JenlovesJT47 @TorieStorieS I had only read it once before, 8 years ago when I was doing my SVH read-through, and I really don‘t remember that. I guess it‘s just a plot device, because Suzanne crashed the Fiat after drinking the champagne mixed with her medication. It was just so weird seeing the Wakefields nonchalantly leave their kids a bottle of champagne 😆 13mo

TorieStorieS Finally made it to this one! Overall, there has been more drinking than I remembered, but I guess this part of the 1980s were pre-DARE? 🤷‍♀️ 2mo

I remember them coming to my elementary school several times 😆 I still think it‘s funny because I don‘t remember the Wakefield Parentals ever being so chill about alcohol in any other book but this one. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Poor Liz gets sloshed and wrecks the jeep after one cup of Everclear so I guess they had their reasons! 😅 2mo

TorieStorieS I think Lila served wine at her costume party where Liz is still out of her mind post-motorcycle accident (or maybe Bruce just had some in his car?). And there was definitely beer brought by college guys when the Wakefield parents are in Mexico… but yes, Liz is definitely a lightweight!🤣 2mo
