Too Hot to Handle | Francine Pascal, Kate William

Pickpick

Book 2 in this fiery miniseries introduces us to this handsome stranger Devon Whitelaw, poor little rich boy who‘s parents have just been killed in a car accident. He takes off from Connecticut on his motorcycle in search of a legal guardian. He will not be able to inherit his millions without one. Methinks this pretty boy will end up in Sweet Valley one of these days. 🤔 Meanwhile, Jess & Liz are SO pissed that Lila and Steven are now dating. ⬇️

JenlovesJT47 They do everything in their power to break up the happy couple. Steven continues to investigate the arson case at Fowler Crest. When he and Lila are at a fancy restaurant for dinner, Lila leaves the room and shortly after, something explodes. Book 2 ends with Lila in all her silken finery with a pair of handcuffs as an accessory. She swears she‘s being framed and Steven doesn‘t know what to believe. Poor Lila. 4⭐️ 13mo

Lila's New Flame | Francine Pascal, Kate William

Mehso-so

I‘m a year behind on reviews and my brain can‘t handle trying to catch up on all of it 😆, but I couldn‘t let my SVH reviews fall by the wayside!

Book 1 of the next miniseries opens with Lila home alone in her giant mansion while her newly remarried parents are on a remote island and can‘t be reached. Someone sets fire to Fowler Crest and Lila barely escapes. Meanwhile, big bro Steven Wakefield just returned to SV for an internship at a law ⬇️

JenlovesJT47 Firm and also has just conveniently broken up with his longtime gf. He is assigned to the Fowler Crest case which is a clear case of arson. The DA thinks Lila started the fire herself but needs proof. It‘s up to good old Steven to find out the truth. He and Li start spending lots of time together and the end of book 1 finds the twins stumbling into the Wakefield kitchen to find these 2 in a lip lock. Quelle horreur! He still doesn‘t know if ⬇️ 13mo
JenlovesJT47 Lila is guilty or not but sure seems to be having fun “working on the case”. 😆 I wonder what will happen next? 🤔 3.5⭐️ #SweetValley #SVH #twins #nostalgia 👯‍♀️ 13mo

Jessica Takes Manhattan | Francine Pascal, Kate William

Jessica and Lila are spending the week in NYC and hijinks ensue. First, Jessica meets rock superstar Ryder Mitchell and they fall head over heels. They agree to meet at the top of the Empire State Building on Valentine‘s night. How romantical. Meanwhile, Lila has been mistaken for a visiting princess at the Plaza Hotel. They are doppleganger‘s. Both the princess and Lila take advantage of this mistake, but it comes back to bite Lila in the butt.⬇️

JenlovesJT47 On Valentine‘s Day, Jess & Lila rush to hop in a taxi, Jess on her way to the Empire State Building to meet Ryder, and Lila on her way to a fancy dinner with her boyfriend Bo. They are horrified to discover Lila has been mistaken for the princess and they are being kidnapped for ransom. Yes, you must suspend your disbelief to read any SVH book, but that‘s what makes these so fun! I actually really enjoyed this and there are a lot of funny ⬇️ 2y
JenlovesJT47 Moments. There is also no self-righteous Liz sticking her nose into everything, and Jessica is also quite enjoyable here and not acting like a narcissistic sociopath. So that‘s a win for me! 4⭐️ 2y
Clare-Dragonfly I‘m delighted to see another one of your SVH reviews! 😄 2y

R for Revenge | Francine Pascal, Kate William

This was one of my fave SVH books growing up and it holds up well on reread. There‘s a new rule that all after school activities/clubs must have a faculty advisor. The cheerleaders are looking for one who won‘t cramp their style and Liz suggests Nancy Swanson, the school librarian. She‘s quiet but shows tons of school spirit and dresses in retro 70s clothes while still using expressions like “groovy” and “far out”. The cheerleaders think she‘s ⬇️

JenlovesJT47 Perfect for the job because she‘s not pushy and actually knows a bit about cheerleading. Meanwhile, Liz is helping as a research assistant to Diane, who works for a magazine in New York. She is writing a story about the Girls of 76, the SVH cheerleading squad who got all the way to nationals. Liz‘s job is to track down the old cheerleading squad and go on interviews with Diane and Brad, the hot photographer Jess naturally has a crush on. Things ⬇️ 3y
JenlovesJT47 Really start to get interesting when cheerleaders start disappearing in groups of 2 and 3. Ms. Swanson assures them that the cheerleaders are on errands to pick up new uniforms. But as the days go by and more cheerleaders go missing, Liz starts to suspect something is up. She stumbles on a clue that Ms. Swanson was one of the girls of 76 who got kicked off the squad halfway through the season, and it turns out Ms. Swanson is getting her revenge ⬇️ 3y
JenlovesJT47 On the girls of 76 by punishing the current cheerleading squad. She seems to be in a time warp and it‘s up to Liz to figure out what‘s going on. Yeah, this story is kinda out there but so fun for an SVH book! It‘s one that‘s hard to put down, even though I knew what was going to happen. Definitely one of my faves. 5⭐️ for nostalgia‘s sake! 3y

TaciturnWhenReading I loved the SVH series when I was a tween! I‘ll have to revisit to see how well they have aged. Fun! 3y
JenlovesJT47 @TaciturnWhenReading it‘s so fun! I‘m doing a read-through of the entire series in order. I have a huge collection but the regular series is available on kindle unlimited and a lot of them are available to read for free on openlibrary.org - check out snarkvalley.wordpress.com - she‘s also doing a read-through and she is so hilarious! 😅🤗 3y
TaciturnWhenReading @JenlovesJT47 The read-throughs actually sound amazing. 🤣 I will have to check that out! 3y

Thank God this miniseries is finally over! One must always suspend their disbelief when reading a Sweet Valley book, but this one really pushes the limits. Jess & Liz escape from the dungeon, Jacques becomes buddies with Prince Laurent and eventually turns himself in. Each couple shares many corny romantic moments and Laurent helps Jacques escape at the end. He also proposes to Liz but she turns him down because SHE IS 16 YEARS OLD! 🙄🤨😒😒😒2⭐️

JenlovesJT47 Hated this miniseries, definitely my least favorite SVH books. #SweetValley #SVH #twins #nostalgia 👯‍♀️ 3y

Ugh. Book 2 in the 3-part miniseries during the twins‘ romp in France as au pairs to a royal family REALLY tried my patience. I knew Jessica‘s dude she met on the train in the last book had to be a jewel thief, and of course I was correct. Naturally, you have to suspend your disbelief with almost any SVH book but this one really pushed it. Liz and especially Jess we‘re SO dense in this book and I had a serious urge to chuck it against the wall ⬇️

JenlovesJT47 On multiple occasions. The book ends with the twins being accused of being jewel thieves by the witchy Countess di Rimini, whose equally unlikeable daughter is engaged to Liz‘s man, Prince Laurent. They were actually thrown in the dungeon at the end of the book and I swear my eyes rolled even farther back into my head. 🙄 Definitely not my fave SVH book by a long shot, but I‘ll be finishing book 3 ASAP so I can put this craptastic miniseries ⬇️ 3y

The Patmans of Sweet Valley | Francine Pascal, Kate William

I‘ve always had a huge soft spot for the Sweet Valley sagas. The 4th and last one is about Bruce Patman‘s ancestors, both on his father and mother‘s side. It‘s enjoyable but weaker than the others since it focuses on both sides of his family tree, which gives the book a rushed feeling and not much room for character development. Overall, enjoyable but not my favorite. 3.5⭐️

I only read this 3-book miniseries when it first came out over 20 years ago and remember nothing about it. Book 1 finds the twins on a jaunt to France to be au pairs for the summer in a château to a trio of royal offspring. Jessica meets a charming guy on the train. More hijinks with this guy in the next book. Meanwhile, Liz is miserable because Todd did the smart thing for once and told her they can take a break and see other people while Liz ⬇️

JenlovesJT47 Is gone for the summer. She‘s extremely butthurt about the breakup (to be fair it was kinda douchey the way he did it), but I‘m on Todd‘s side for once. Let‘s face it: if he hadn‘t broken up with her you can bet your ass Liz would have ended up cheating on him, she always does. Not sure what she‘s so upset about but I digress! Naturally, she falls for the handsome prince (older brother of the kids they‘re babysitting) and Jessica‘s mysterious ⬇️ 3y
JenlovesJT47 Guy shows up in her room at the castle right at the end of the book and nearly scares her to death. Methinks we probably have a jewel thief in our midst but I can‘t remember what happens, so I‘m really looking forward to book 2! 4⭐️ 3y

I have always had a huge soft spot for the Sweet Valley Sagas. They were my first taste of historical fiction and I read them countless times when I was growing up. I haven‘t read the story of Lila‘s family in a long time but I‘m surprised how much I enjoyed it. It holds up well. Of course, there are plot holes, but it wouldn‘t be Sweet Valley if there weren‘t! 5⭐️

Model Flirt | Francine Pascal, Kate William

Book 2 in the fashion series sees Jessica swipe one of Quentin‘s fancy cameras for the day so she can get Lila to take some professional looking pictures for her modeling portfolio. Naturally, she decides to do it on the beach, and naturally Lila gets completely knocked over by a wave and the expensive camera is ruined. Lila refuses to pay for it and Jessica doesn‘t know what to do, when mysteriously Quentin receives a brand-new camera with a ⬇️

JenlovesJT47 Note from “Jessica” saying she had it professionally cleaned for him. Quentin starts being nice to Jessica after this and eventually asks her on a date. Jess just assumes Lila changed her mind, but methinks it has something to do with her talking about it on the phone near Cameron, this so-called lowly mailroom guy. We‘ll see what happens! Eventually, Jess has a dilemma of having a date with both Cameron and Quentin on the same night! Cue a fun ⬇️ 3y
JenlovesJT47 Twin switch at a fancy French restaurant. Simone and Todd continue to date, and he gets grounded after being photographed in a trashy tabloid after a night out on the town with Simone. He continues to sneak out and his parents give him an ultimatum: he has to stop modeling. Todd says hell no and decides to move out because he is “pretty much an adult”. Liz starts seeing another side of Leona after she basically becomes her personal slave & has ⬇️ 3y
JenlovesJT47 Liz covering for her while she skis in Tahoe. When Liz goes to her house to feed her cats and gawk at her amazing house, she comes across Leona‘s tape recorder and hears her dictate a note all about how she‘s stealing Liz‘s great new idea for a feature in the magazine and passing it off as her own. The story ends with Liz and her friend Reggie coming up with a plan to get back at Leona. Cameron says he‘ll give Jess one more chance, so ⬇️ 3y

JenlovesJT47 Naturally he walks in on her right when Quentin is giving her a big kiss. Oh yes, Jess sabotaged the roll of film from the last photo shoot with Simone, and Simone is AWOL on vacation and Jess finally gets to step in and do some modeling. You really have to suspend your disbelief with this miniseries considering these are a bunch of 16-year-olds, but it‘s fun to just sit back and watch it all unfold. I love reading these when I don‘t want ⬇️ (edited) 3y
