This one was new to me & so adorable! The twins have to earn their own money if they want to go visit Great Aunt Helen, so they decide to start a dog-walking business. Jess shirks her responsibilities but Ken, who loves dogs but isn‘t allowed to have one, is thrilled to help. They get an opportunity to earn more money when Mr. Quincy brings his dog, Joe, for them to watch for a week. Joe is a Samoyed & is covered in cuts & bruises. The twins &⬇️

JenlovesJT47 Ken scheme to keep Joe from going back to Mr. Quincy. They tell him he ran away but they really took him to Ken‘s cousin‘s ranch. But their secret is out when Joe runs away & runs straight back to the Wakefields where Mr. Q is waiting. Mr. Wakefield puts him in his place in spectacular fashion & scares him away, once the kids tell their parents about Joe‘s abuse. And bonus: Ken gets to keep Joe at his house! So cute. 5⭐️ (edited) 6h
TorieStorieS New to you! This was one that I remembered well, but had so much fun revisiting! Now I‘m in the later ones in the series and they are all new to me which is a different kind of fun! 6h
JenlovesJT47 @TorieStorieS we had opposite experiences because I started reading them around number 65 and read all of the ones up through the early 100‘s. So fun! 5h
TorieStorieS It‘s fun to have someone to chat with about reading them, though! 4h

Patrick Morris has very strict parents who‘ve gotten even more strict lately. His parents forbid him to join the school band, so he practices the saxophone at Casa Wakefield in his free time. He makes the band but his parents still refuse to let him play. He decides to run away, & Winston & the twins help. Eventually he goes home & learns his dad lost his job, which is why they didn‘t want him joining the band. But all‘s well that ends well in SV.

I got way behind on my reviews last week! This one is all about Belinda “Billie” Layton, who is a tomboy at heart & loves playing sports. She‘s out of sorts because her mother is about to have a baby & her dad doesn‘t spend as much time with her anymore. Don‘t worry, Saint Liz will help! 😆

TorieStorieS Her parents stealing her name is a bit over the top, even for Sweet Valley, though! 🤣 6h
JenlovesJT47 @TorieStorieS right? I had never read any of these earlier books other than the first 4 or 5. So I was wondering who Billie Layton is lol. Ah yes, Belinda! Poor Billie, naming their kid Bill is such a slap in the face! 5h
TorieStorieS I know!!! The Laytons are hardly model Sweet Valley parents! 4h

Fiction is the great lie telling the truth…

Spot on articulation for why writing & reading “fiction” is important. 👌🏾 I could listen to Verghese all day - so insightful & relaxing. Bet his medical students like him.

GingerAntics I has a patient that used to come in and talk about how children shouldn‘t be reading fiction because it‘s nonsense and they should only be reading “the truth” because that‘s what the Bible says, EVERY time she came in. It was really hard to keep my mouth shut. 🙄 4d
Tamra @GingerAntics oh yes - that would be very hard. My tongue would hurt. 😖 4d

GingerAntics @Tamra it sure did! It was utter nonsense and I felt terrible for her kids! She didn‘t even let her grandkids read fiction at her house. I feel back for them, too! 4d
Tamra @GingerAntics wow! 😖 4d
GingerAntics @Tamra yeah. It was actually REALLY sad. We would sure hate for kids to have imaginations. 4d
GingerAntics @Tamra she was a really sweet lady outside of that. It was just hard to think well of her when she was SO adamant against literature. 4d

I knew I wanted to read this book as soon as I saw it on the shelf. This memoir is told not directly by the family, but as it was told to the author writing for them. Nicole and her twin brother were adopted, and from a very early age, she knew she was in the wrong body. The family‘s journey from observation, to education, to the many steps of gender affirming care and inevitability the legislature is told. This book was published in ⬇️

JenniferEgnor 2015…a lot has happened since then. Trans folks have become the latest punching bag of right wing politics, and it is a must that we all stand up, speak out, and fight back. We must not be idle or silent, watching as our trans communities are demonized. There is no neutrality here. We will not accept fascist ideas. This story really spoke to me, as some of my closest friends are trans. However, it shouldn‘t take you having to know a ⬇️ 1w

JenniferEgnor The author also talks about other trans people in the spotlight, breaks down the biological aspects, and the psychological ones. She also provides a glossary of words and helpful resources with websites and contact info. 1w

Dear Universe, Hi it‘s me, Nikki. I know that we haven‘t talked in a while, but I thought that I would just bring up something that has been bothering me lately. Transgenderism. No, not transgenderism itself, more like, how we are treated, and why we can‘t do this or that, or why it‘s such a big deal to everybody. For starters, why IS it such a big deal to everyone what somebody has in their pants? Now, I don‘t mean to get too philosophical⬇️

JenniferEgnor here, but isn‘t this the same argument that we have been having for years now? First it was African Americans, then it was Jewish people, now its LGBTQ community. Really I think people just want something to complain about, so they target minorities. They make a big fuss that we are the bringers of doom, so they try to put us in separate bathrooms and invoke laws to put us at the bottom of the pile…And here‘s another thing, if the medical ⬇️ (edited) 1w
JenniferEgnor world is going to call transgenderism “Gender Identity DISORDER,” why don‘t they treat it like a disorder? Insurance companies have labeled Sex Reassignment Surgery as cosmetic, not necessary. It‘s ridiculous! It‘s like people will do anything to make this harder for us! The only surgery that insurance companies see as necessary is surgery that will keep you from dropping dead. And in a sense, SRS surgery is a matter of life and death seeing as⬇️ 1w
JenniferEgnor 41% of transgender people have attempted to commit suicide – this is more than 25 times the rate of suicide attempts by average citizens. It makes me wonder how much lower this percentile would be if every trans petson‘s surgery was covered by medical insurance. And as much as I wish I could say that it would be 0%, I know that there are still factors that would cause suicide attempts, like bullying in school…So if you wouldn‘t mind, universe, ⬇️ 1w

JenniferEgnor , can you please change so that LGBTQ community is safer? It would be greatly appreciated. 1w
bookishbitch I've personally never understood why anyone cares what another person wears or does. Unless it is creating a danger, and I mean a real one, not their manufactured version, then people should just mind their own business. 1w
JenniferEgnor @bookishbitch I can tell you as a fact, that not once have I ever felt uncomfortable by a trans person. They are some of my closest friends. However, I have felt very uncomfortable and have been harassed and assaulted by, cisgender men. The real problem, yes I agree, is with misogynist fragile men not minding their own business. And shame on the TERFS. 1w

In the context the spiders should be venomous, not poisonous. 🙄 I‘m trying hard to not be too judgmental of this book, because I really want to like it. The characters are pushing my limits though. Please tell me it gets better.

Top 3 … the snowy day, pippi long stockings, and Anne of Greene Gables
