Get Out of Your Head
Get Out of Your Head: Stopping the Spiral of Toxic Thoughts | Jennie Allen
The visionary behind the million-strong IF:Gathering challenges Christian women to transform their outlook and their lives by interrupting their spiraling thoughts and realizing their God-given power to think differently. Speaker and Bible teacher Jennie Allen hears all the time from women who feel stuck in patterns of frustration and defeat. In her search for a solution, she's learned that the greatest spiritual battle of our generation is taking place between our ears. How we think shapes how we live. So it's crucial that we learn how to stop our spinning thoughts and refuse to fall prey to toxic thinking patterns like victimhood, anxiety, and distraction. In this book Jennie draws on biblical truth and recent discoveries in neuroscience to show exactly how we can fight the enemies of the mind with the truth of who God is and who He calls us to be.

I can appreciate the message in this but it did come across a little bit preachy for me. It was super heavy on the scripture references and I was hoping for more examples and life experience than what was in this one. Great research and message, just a little tough to stay engaged for me.

This was good, really good! If you‘re looking for #personalgrowth this one is for you! The author talks about strategies to reduce negative self talk and ways to minimize fears and worries.

Smartypants @curiouserandcurioser right? Everything she talked about was so relatable and suggestions seemed easy to implement! Does she have other books? 2y
curiouserandcurioser @Smartypants yes!! Made for this, Nothing to Prove, Find your People:) 2y

This one is entirely on me. I vaguely knew the concept of the book without delving into it further. If I had known how heavy on God and Christianity it was I never would have picked it up. I‘m sure there‘s an audience for this, but it is definitely not for me in any way, shape or form.

Another must read on how to take control over your own thoughts! This Christian author really goes into depth on the mental struggles she has faced, which I'm sure many of us can relate to. The whole point is that God gives us the strength to choose what we set our minds on - and instead fill them with the promises and words of God. Please read!

Third time this year. This time I listened to the #audiobook. I need regular reminders to keep my focus on God and not everything going on around me. Needed more than usual in 2020, for sure!

When you go to the next room to put your son to sleep, the pup comes out to play. I walked out of the room for 5 minutes to check on my son, and I come back to a chewed up book 😩 He‘s lucky he‘s cute and just a puppy, but I now learned a valuable lesson not to leave him alone with my books. Ever. 🤣

robinz I learned that exact same lesson with my pup years ago 😆 he might grow out of it eventually! (edited) 4y

Starting something new! My Graves Disease took a turn these last few weeks, and on top of Graves I also have thyroid eye disease now. I am going to start to read more self help books that will hopefully help me take control of my life again before I was diagnosed with thyroid disease. I have a lot of flare ups (more than most) and I want my mental state back to where it used to be. Here goes nothing!

Butterfinger I love your idea and hope you have a great/calm week. 4y
TheQuietQuill Thank you! To you as well 🥰❤️ @Butterfinger 4y

This book gets all the stars! 🤩 I am so glad I picked it up during these crazy pandemic times we live in. Jennie Allen encouraged me and taught me how to break toxic thought patterns and form positive, uplifting thought spirals in a way that was relatable and understandable. (Note: This book is excellent and is most definitely Christian, with a strong focus on the Bible and the principles outlined there.)

Several years ago a friend invited me to do a Bible study with her called Stuck. The creator of this study, Jennie Allen, immediately became a favorite for me. She was so authentic and being able to relate to someone who was willing to name her struggles and provide encouragement for others through them meant so much to me.

Fast forward to today when another very special friend had this book delivered to me! There are very

Are there any authors outside of your normal reading preferences that totally blow you away?

The lies we believe, the deep pain they cause, and the lengths we go to hide it all are laid bare in Get Out Of Your Head. She pairs scientific research with scriptural truths in a way that will have you gearing up for battle. The ultimate battle: the battle for your mind.

NOTE: Jennie makes sure to compassionately acknowledges the very real and serious role of mental health disorders. I am a counselor and I 100% recommend this book.
