Dishoom: From Bombay with Love | Shamil Thakrar, Kavi Thakrar, Naved Nasir
6 posts | 1 read | 1 to read
An eccentric and charming cookbook from Dishoom, with over 100 recipes from the much-loved restaurants. At long last, Dishoom share the secrets to their much sought-after Bombay comfort food: the Bacon Naan Roll, Black Daal, Okra Fries, Jackfruit Biryani, Chicken Ruby and Lamb Raan, along with Masala Chai, coolers and cocktails. As you learn to cook the Dishoom menu, you will also be taken on a day-long tour of south Bombay, peppered with much eating and drinking. You'll discover the simple joy of early chai and omelette at Kyani and Co., of dawdling in Horniman Circle on a lazy morning, of eating your fill on Mohammed Ali Road, of strolling on the sands at Chowpatty at sunset or taking the air at Nariman Point at night. This beautiful cookery book and its equally beautiful photography will transport you to Dishoom's most treasured corners of Bombay. Read it, and you will find yourself replete with recipes and stories to share with all who come to your table.

Last bit of #FoodAndLit #India cooking

Top right is a mutter paneer. It used the tomato onion masala as a base and was delicious but incredibly rich!
Bottom right is Jeera biscuits, which are like shortbread biscuits with cumin seeds in. They were an interesting taste but very good with chai!

And finally on the left is masala chai, tomato chilli jam, and a bacon naan roll (I made the naan too) which we have had before but was delicious!

Catsandbooks It all sounds delicious! 🇮🇳 2y

Had a productive day: beautifying myself, buying trainers without holes in, and making onion and tomato masala followed by Chole Bhature (the masala is an ingredient)

It was very tasty, but a lot of effort for 2 people 😂
We do have a lot of masala left for other dishes though.

The Chole was served with ginger matchsticks, diced red onion, coriander, lime wedge, and chappatis (shop bought)

Catsandbooks Delicious! 🇮🇳 2y
MicheleinPhilly Minus the coriander (I have that pesky “It tastes like soap” gene), this looks incredible! 2y

It‘s no contest! Yes the internet is good for some quick conversions and inspiration - but it‘s no substitute for leafing through a beautifully photographed cookbook. 🌟

Hestapleton I love looking at cookbooks but I feel like most of the ones I‘ve seen aren‘t suitable for practical, budget-friendly cooking. :/ 4y
Crazeedi I totally agree, my physical cookbooks are my go to and my inspiration. I have a bookcase filled... 4y
Mitch @Hestapleton @Crazeedi I agree. My books are my starting point for inspiration rather than to follow word for word a recipe. 4y
Crazeedi @Mitch oh for sure, I never let a good recipe develop without my own little "touch" my daughter always gets mad when I try to give her a recipe and say "well I add this or that" , just can't leave a good thing alone!? 4y

One of my resolves for the year is to start some mornings slower, take time alone to think, be peaceful and reflect.... today did just that, with my book, a bacon naan & lassi ! Highly recommend it!

Lynnsoprano Bacon naan! I can‘t let hubby see this 😂 5y
Rina_Black Looks delicious! 5y

Enjoying curling up with this one.. part travelogue, gorgeous recipe ideas and stunning photography. It‘s a love letter to the Irani cafes of Mumbai. Can‘t wait to get stuck into cooking fro this one - I think it‘s going to be our October cook book of the month ( we choose one cookbook and cook through it for a month!)

Emilymdxn I want this soooo badly! I love the restaurants 5y
Mitch @Emilymdxn me too! And all my favourites are in the book! 5y
Crazeedi What a great idea, you are so creative with your cooking!❤ 5y

cariashley That‘s such a great idea! I feel like I don‘t use my (many) cookbooks nearly enough, I should do that. 5y
Mitch @cariashley it works for us - mainly because you make good use of any specialist ingredients and left overs all go together! 5y
jesseastin What a fantastic personal cooking challenge! I love the idea and I haven‘t heard of this particular cookbook, so I‘m especially intrigued. 5y
Louise I love the idea of a cookbook of the month! I might try that! 5y
