A delightful coffee table book containing photos of silver screen legends looking at books. The captions make some effort to discern the true readers from obvious publicity staging. They actually put some effort into trying to determine the book as well, when the cover is obscured.

TheBookHippie I love this book. 7mo

Here‘s a crazy fun read for bibliophiles who love movies. Plenty of photos and trivia on literature covered in the film industry and which books Hollywood icons love to read. Can you name the films where these fictional bookstores appeared? 1. Acme Book Shop 2. Argosy Book Store 3. Embryo Concepts 4. Flourish and Blotts 5. The Shop Around the Corner (Answers below👇🏻)

mrp27 The Los Angeles public library has a Gregory Peck reading room. He used to hold readings once a week. As if he wasn't swoon worthy enough! 4y

4⭐ for photos; 2⭐ for text & editing. Even though I watched a lot of old movies when I was little, I still had trouble identifying a few of the stars. In all fairness, they were all *at least* a generation before me (more were two or more generations before me). Anyway, the photos were pretty darn gorgeous, but the writing and editing were mediocre/poor.

I received this book in LibraryThing‘s Early Reviewers program.

It‘s a beautiful book, with photos of famous folks (mostly actors, some directors) from the 30‘s through the 60‘s. Each photo has a descriptive paragraph on the opposite page.

Unfortunately it‘s geared towards either older than me folks who will recognize those pictured, or real B&W movie buffs. While lovely, it‘s lost on me.

Two of my favorite things: books and old Hollywood. Contains photos of stars reading books, mostly publicity shots or stills from films, with bits of info about the stars and/or films. This would make a nice gift for bookworms who also like classic films.

I won this in a giveaway on LibraryThing. Published by Chronicle Books.
