Secrets of Salsa: A Bilingual Cookbook
Secrets of Salsa: A Bilingual Cookbook | Mexican Women of Anderson Valley
2 posts | 1 read
What started as a benefit for a local adult literacy program in Boonville, California, has taken on a life of its own, with an impact extending far beyond the borders of Mendocino County. The Anderson Valley has a reputation as one of the nation's great gourmet picnic baskets. Great wines (Husch, Handley, Fetzer), superb fruits, innovative cuisine (Cafe Beaujolais), and even good beer (Booneville Ale) originate at this crossroad of natural bounty and enlightened imagination. Ingredients are fresh, emphasis on organic farming methods is high, and the hard work of tilling and harvesting is undertaken by the Hispanic field hands who have come north to grab hold of a small part of the American Dream.Part of the acculturation process, especially for the women, comes from learning not only a new language, but simply to read and write. In this context, salsa becomes much more than an exotic condiment.

3 F this morning - it‘s going to another very long winter at this rate. 🥶 So I‘m thinking Mexico - shrimp tacos for dinner!

This is such a great little cookbook, highly recommend. It sprang from salsa days at an adult ESL program where students were learning to translate kitchen measurements. Proceeds benefit the school.

I‘m thinking about the avocado/tomatillo salsa, if I can find either of those ripe!

TheSpineView Sounds yummy! 4y
Tamra @TheSpineView I‘m looking forward to it! 4y
