This book is the story of the author‘s discovery of her family‘s past in Nazi occupied Ukraine, the ones who survived, and those who didn‘t; and her journey to not only learn as much as possible about them while they grew up and lived in Trochenbrod from those who survived and remembered, but her desire to step foot on the soil where such unspeakable things happened, to find the graves. Once a thriving village, nothing remains of Trochenbrod⬇️

JenniferEgnor today. Like so many other places during the war, the Nazis tried to erase all evidence that anyone had once lived there; murdering them and tossing their bodies into mass pits and then covering them up into what can be seen today. Sadly, there is a continuing Nazi movement today, and those who deny the Holocaust ever happened. I can‘t imagine what it must have been like for the author to try and retrace her family‘s steps. The most important⬇️ (edited) 5mo
JenniferEgnor thing she wanted to do was keep their memories alive; to keep going, ever in defiance of the Nazis. An important read. 5mo

Thank you #crownpublishing and #netgalley for the opportunity to read and review #iwantyoutoknowwerestillhere

This book touched my heart in a deep way. The author is the daughter of a holocaust survivor and is searching for answers about her parents families who were murdered in Ukraine. Her mother refused to tell her much about her life, and her father died when she was eight years old. She researches and through⬇️

Crazeedi many serendipitous events finds the answers to many of her questions about her family. As she tells us her heritage is saved through memories. I definitely recommend this book, as its important we #neverforget 5y
TheAromaofBooks It can be really hard to find answers to family questions when the family members don't want to share painful memories - I had a great-uncle who landed on D-Day but would never talk about his experiences. I understand, but am also sad about that piece of family history that has been lost forever. 5y
Crazeedi @TheAromaofBooks that is so true 5y
Cinfhen I‘m really looking forward to reading this book. Was she a good writer?? 5y

“History is public. Memory is private.” While Ms. Foer‘s parents chose to keep their memories private, fortunately for us she chose to share the memories she uncovered and to keep these stories alive.
