A new genre. Undertaker/private investigator noir. Really enjoyed it though. Shall continue with the series.

This was a good start to an intriguing series set in Edinburgh. The premise gave me slight Six Feet Under vibes but was inspired by Johnstone‘s experience as a writer in residence at a funeral home. Would read more in the series if I could get my hands on it.
I enjoyed this book. It is fairly well structured and thought out. The characters are fairly well rounded and the story a little bit different. I've given this 4 rather than 5 stars because the author probably should have done a bit more research in certain areas, in particular DNA testing. That said it's a good story, generally well told and if you like your murders entwined with humour then this has got to be for you. Thank you.
Whew, that ending! I didn't see it coming!
A fantastic beginning to a new series focusing on three women running a funeral home / P.I. business in Edinburgh. After the loss of their patriarch, each woman discovers shocking secrets that leave them considering how well we truly know someone. I was hooked from page one: I loved all the subplots, the alternating points of view, and the well developed characters.
This book caught my eye several months ago after a Goodreads review. I couldn't resist grabbing it (and the sequel!) on my Kindle last night. I'm already starting it so all the books that have been waiting on my Kindle for months (*cough* years *cough*) are totally jealous 😆
Jenny decided to push it. ‘That‘s not what her phone tells me.‘
‘Really?‘
Jenny stared. It was amazing the force of a hard stare from an angry middle-aged woman.
*I must be doing it wrong...*
She caught the smell of charcoal and burgers from barbecues across the road. The Meadows were full of students exploiting the last warm days before the country shut down for winter. Frisbees, football, in the distance some girls playing quidditch. Harry Potter was before her time, she preferred The Hunger Games, stronger women for a start. But you couldn‘t exactly play Hunger Games in the park.
I‘ve been won over by the Skelf women and the mysteries they are trying to uncover in “A Dark Matter”. This is a unique mystery and thriller that will keep you engaged throughout. It‘s 5 stars from me!
My full review as part of the blog tour is online now 📚
Not at all complaining that one of my last reads of this decade is #ADarkMatter by Doug Johnstone and that I will be ending my reading year on a very high note!! 🤗😍
