Evolved Publishing presents a young adult apocalyptic adventure from the multiple award-winning author of "The Zombie West" series and "The Desert" series. The end of the world? That's the stuff of Hollywood blockbusters and deep philosophical exercises in school. No need to sweat it. So when sixteen-year-old Tess's doomsday-dad builds a bomb shelter in their suburban backyard, everyone thinks he's gone crazy.... ...Until fire rains down from the sky, sinking whole cities into colossal craters and setting much of the world ablaze. Tess's dad gives her a few short minutes to gather her emergency bag and her freaked-out kitten, then leads her outside and into the underground shelter. Terrified, the last thing she expects is for him to leave her there all alone, but he has no choice-he must find her missing brother. Before leaving, he makes Tess promise to keep the hatch door shut, not to open it for anyone but him, and to stay put until he returns. But he forgot to tell her one thing: What is she supposed to do if he never comes back?

Who else is spending their Friday night with their TBR, 7 lists of challenges, & a spreadsheet? Anyone? Anyone?

Michelle_mck I'm spending my Saturday afternoon doing a similar thing 7y
Marchpane This is so incredibly methodical, I love it! You're going to nail those challenges! 7y

Desha Love it love it love it! I'm planning to do the same type of thing this weekend only no excel for me...sadly my computer education is lacking in that area! 😓☺️😜 7y
Bookworm83 Yep! I'm sitting here trying to figure out the A to Z challenge books as we speak. 7y
Kimzey Ha! Yes, but mine is not nearly so organized! Still in progress though. 😊📚📚📚📚📚 7y
Louise Wow, it's amazing how much detail you go to! I have such an aversion to being told what to read that I don't even join book clubs! 7y
AWahle Did the spreadsheets for A to Z and Bingo. Still figuring out Read Harder, but I do have a box in the living room of books I cannot start until January 1st! 📚😇📦 7y
Notafraidofwords @Louise same! I think college ruined me. 7y
Sweettartlaura @Louise I'm seeing if the 200+ books/ebooks/audiobooks I already own will qualify for some of the more obscure tasks. If not, then something on the TBR I don't own. That way, I'm not really forced to read anything I don't want to, & yet I still get the accomplishment of completing a challenge 😌🙌🏻 7y
Sweettartlaura @Kimzey I suspect that as the year rolls on, other books will slot in nicely. I just don't want to get to November, be 2 or 3 tasks short, & have to scramble 😜 7y
Sweettartlaura @Marchpane Thanks😊. I hope so! 7y
Sweettartlaura @Desha I cannot live without Excel. Make friends with it. Your life will change for the better - promise! 7y
Sweettartlaura @Bookworm83 Are you doing author or title track? I'm doing both😆. Simply because I already own enough books to do so. I need ideas for Q & U authors, if you have any... 7y
Louise @Notafraidofwords I hear you! I was a lit.major so some semesters were crazy with reading material! 7y
Sweettartlaura @Louise & @Notafraidofwords I was NOT a Lit major - I took lit classes to have a reason to read for pleasure in college 😊. And I loved those classes, & I learned a lot. Like how to read books you may not pick out yourself. So stretching for 2 or 3 tasks per challenge is actually good for me. 7y
Bookworm83 I'm doing both, too. For Q I'm reading 7y
Bookworm83 Still trying to find one for U 😋 7y
Louise @Sweettartlaura Hey, whatever floats your bookish boat! 📚📚📚🤓 7y
Sweettartlaura @Louise Exactly❤️. I'm just happy to be floating along with all of you ❤️ 7y
Louise ❤📚🤓 7y
Sweettartlaura @Bookworm83 I'm doing that for Title track for Q, too 😊. You got a Q author lined up? And for U title, I'm going with 7y
Desha Haha thanks for the encouragement! 😜 Even though I made it through Calc 7y
Desha at UCSD, ever since I have loved using computer programs that work with words, NOT numbers and calculations lol. My dad is a CPA so he uses Excel for everything...I admire you guys!! 😍❤️📚 7y
Sweettartlaura @Desha if you made it through Calc, you can master Excel😏 7y
Bookworm83 Oops! I misread your comment. I'm actually doing the track with both authors and titles in one list 🙂Good for you for tackling both! 7y
DGRachel I am in awe! 7y
Sweettartlaura @Bookworm83 Since I'm only short on Q's, X's, U's, & Z's, I figured why not? It'll knock out more books from my TBR bookcase😮 7y
Sweettartlaura @DGRachel Thanks! But let's see if I pull it off 😜 7y
DGRachel I want to do at least some of these challenges, but I'm such an emotional reader, I worry that all the planning will just be a waste of time, that I will end up not wanting to read anything on the list simply because it's on the list, and then I will fail and hate myself by the end of the year. Nope. No neuroses here...😉 7y
Sweettartlaura @DGRachel I expect this to change. I only have 3 book club picks selected for next year, and who knows what that will bring into my life? And some tasks are hard to know upfront: unreliable narrator? covers the lifespan of the character? I could read one book for a different reason, yet find it ticks some other boxes. So who knows? Tonight I'm just surveying what I already have, & what I want to do, and seeing what it takes to close the gap. 7y
Sweettartlaura @DGRachel I do recommend taking on a challenge, though. It changes your reading life, & opens you to new authors & genres. There are tons out there. Pick one, & we'll talk again in 12 months 😉 7y
Louise @Bookworm83 for U, have you read The Underground Railroad yet? It's deeply moving! 7y
Louise @Sweettartlaura for Z, you might try Isabel Allende's Zorro or anything by Carlos Ruiz Zafon. Both fabulous! 7y
Sweettartlaura @Louise Thanks! I was thinking of Zero K - been a while since I read a DeLillo - but I'll look at these, too! And would Underground Railroad qualify as a boon for a POC on a spiritual journey, as well? 7y
Louise @Sweettartlaura If you're just starting out with Zafon, try The Shadow of the Wind first. It's part of a great series. Whitehead's Underground Railroad certainly has a journey in it, both literally and figuratively. It's more philosophical than a straightforward "coming of age" style story because the main character and many minor characters are confronted with the worst of human nature and sometimes also the goodness in people. Cont'd. 7y
Louise @Sweettartlaura One theme is how humans confront evil. It becomes a journey for the reader too. It raises many questions about what triumph over evil might look like, depending on what one is capable of. A rich read! 7y
Sweettartlaura @Louise Thanks! I've heard nothing but good things, but just hadn't gotten to it yet. Now it goes on The List😏 7y
Louise @Sweettartlaura I'll be curious to hear what you think of it! 7y
ReadingEnvy Planning for 2017 will be my treat once I post all my best of 2016 stuff. But I'm always worried I'll read the best book in 2016 in December so I delay it.... 7y
Sweettartlaura @ReadingEnvy Yeah, I don't decide my Best Of til the last week ... Cos you're right... You never know 😉 7y
