Not as diverse as other collections I‘ve read, but included a good balance of male and female poets. I greatly enjoyed the different ways the poets wrote about travel and transportation. This is a lovely collection that was fun to read.

Didn‘t enjoy all of the Tennyson in this collection, but I did enjoy this lovely poem they used to close.

jewright One of my favorite Tennyson poems. 5y
GingerAntics @jewright I can see why. There were others in the collection that I was just sort of lukewarm about, but this one I quite liked. 5y

I feel like this is a poem that should be taught in every American school. Of course, it won‘t be because 1) it‘s written by a woman and we‘d hate for girls to think they had brains, and 2) it would require doing something that would make them good people but isn‘t on a godforsaken test.

I remember riding on a train when I was 7. It was oddly fun. I may be back on a train this spring and I‘m very excited. Yes, I‘m a nerd.

Izai.Amorim Trains are great. Sitting in one right now! 5y
GingerAntics @Izai.Amorim a rapid transit train or a long distance train? I enjoy both for different reasons. 5y
Izai.Amorim @GingerAntics Today was a short ride to the mountains, about one hour, slow train. But I usually work not in Munich and must travel twice a week. Last assignment was in Dusseldorf, about 4,5hours with the bullet train. 5y

GingerAntics @Izai.Amorim oh so you do all kinds of trains! We have far fewer train options here in the states. 5y
Izai.Amorim @GingerAntics I did it only once in the US. Amtrak New York City to Cincinnati. It was quite an experience. 5y
GingerAntics @Izai.Amorim amtrack is pretty much it for distance trips, here. We don‘t really have bullet trains here, sadly. 5y

I love the sea.
@TheBookHippie especially when the poem is actually about the sea. 🤷🏼‍♀️ When it‘s not, I just laugh. 😏

For some reason I thought the Flying Dutchman was a joke...I had no idea it was a rather enjoyable poem.

I‘m on the fence about this poet and I don‘t know why. I‘ve liked everything of hers I‘ve read so far.

TheBookHippie My daughter loves her. I sometimes like her. 🤷🏽‍♀️ 5y
GingerAntics @TheBookHippie I think I‘ve read 2 or 3 of her poems. It‘s not enough to say outright, but I think I‘ll find a collection of her poems and see. 5y

GingerAntics @TheBookHippie 🤣😂🤣 I think you can have a pass on this one. I‘m on the fence about Dickinson and I feel like that makes me a bad bibliophile. 5y

I almost want to ask my students what they think of as their sacred space after this.

As someone who hasn‘t even been in a car for over a year, I can see this as a sacred space!

Starting this next collection of poetry. I‘m finding I actually like poetry when I understand what the bleep is going on.
#SongsForTheOpenRoad #PoetryCollection #Poetry #PoetryMatters

Scochrane26 You might like Wendell Berry. He writes mostly about nature. 5y
GingerAntics @Scochrane26 is he easier to understand than Whitman? lol 5y
Scochrane26 @gingerantics Yes. I‘ve read more of his novels & essays but occasionally read his poetry. 5y
See All 12 Comments
GingerAntics @Scochrane26 I‘m going to have to look into him. 5y
TheBookHippie 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼❤️📖❤️ 5y
TheBookHippie FYI you‘d like Berry. 5y
GingerAntics @TheBookHippie @Scochrane26 I‘ve got a couple of his collections on my wishlist now. It‘s hard to know where to start with all those. (edited) 5y
Scochrane26 @GingerAntics You can read Berry in any order. I think I have Sabbaths & maybe another of his poetry books. Update: I looked now that I‘m home, & I have Sabbaths 2013, Sabbaths 2014 &2015, & Leavings. (edited) 5y
GingerAntics @Scochrane26 yeah, I saw all those. I wasn‘t sure how to approach them. I‘m a little freaked out with the way some people are wording their discussions of him. Is he super Christian or is that just the way some people are reading him? 5y
Scochrane26 I think he‘s a Christian, but he‘s more spiritual. Not sure if he has a church he goes to because I‘m not sure he‘s into organized religion. He finds a lot of his spirituality in nature. @GingerAntics I‘d have to look again at his poetry. I think Sabbaths might have more of a Christian tone, but other things I‘ve read are about nature/farming. 5y
Scochrane26 @GingerAntics I looked through some of Leavings. There are a few poems that are overtly Christian but there‘s a range of other topics. The reason we think you would like Berry is because he‘s been a fierce advocate for small farming, environmental concerns, finding your “place” & nurturing it, & he‘s not afraid to protest the government. 5y
GingerAntics @Scochrane26 anyone who will protest the government (especially right now) I‘m all for! lol 5y
