Mehso-so

This was a #CoverCrush buy that is #MoreMehThanYeah. CW in spoiler.

This novel is an oppressively sad, atmospheric look at a day in the life of a pediatric ICU nurse. She is deeply emotionally involved in her work and is in the early stages of burnout from compassion fatigue. A short, hard read.

This is my #doublespin @TheAromaofBooks 👍🏻

Chelsea.Poole Sounds tough and I‘m going to avoid but that cover 😍 2y
jlhammar That is a great cover. 2y

Chelsea.Poole Oh my gosh I noticed those! So pretty. My garden is still going strong too, though my daisies were eaten by the deer 🤷🏼‍♀️ 2y
Chelsea.Poole Love that you‘re using the garden for your photos….two of my favorite things: books and plants 🥰 2y

Megabooks @Chelsea.Poole we‘ve had a problem with squirrels pulling up our bulbs. I hope we still have some flowers next spring! I love gardening too! 2y

Visceral and poetic writing made this dark story of an overworked, sleep deprived pediatric nurse having hallucinations really come alive in my brain as I was reading. Glass has an interesting writing style which I'm a fan of.

The ending leaves things a bit up in the air, so if you're not a fan of drawing your own conclusions than you might want to avoid this one.

A detailed depiction of a couple of days in the life of Laura, a pediatric nurse working long hours on an inpatient ward at a London hospital. Suffering from sleep deprivation and social isolation, she begins to lose her grip on reality. I didn't enjoy it per se, but it was well written and obviously the author has worked in this environment herself. Thankfully quite short, as I was glad to leave the inside of Laura's head. The end is shocking.

An unusual novella that tells the story of Laura, a paediatric nurse who is sleep deprived and on the edge of burnout. The emotional toll of the job seems unbearable and I think anyone working in the medical field would recognise it‘s observations. It‘s quite speculative in style and almost poetic. But that ending! 😮

Huge thanks to @Freespirit for the recommendation.
Nurses are the best ❤️

JennyM @Freespirit I did! It brought back so many memories of when my two were in the NICU. I will never forget the kindness the nurses showed us. There were tears over many cups of tea and always a hug and wise words. You are all superheroes 🦸‍♀️ 😘 🦸‍♂️ 4y
JennyM @Reggie lol... gets me every time Reggie 😘 4y

I highly recommend the novel, however, especially if someone you know and/or love is in the medical field. It‘s so easy to overlook their historically overlong shifts and lack of ability for self-care in the face of helping their patients.

A little gem I read in an evening. I don‘t usually read hospital based books as I see enough at work😐 This was recommended..Laura is a nurse in a London Paediatric unit looking after sick, fragile beautiful babies. She works nights, is constantly tired, has washed her hands raw and dreams strange dreams. I knew instantly that this was written by a nurse...the descriptions reflected how I have felt.
I haven‘t seen this on Litsy⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

JennyM I‘m stacking this!!! I work with nurses in my research unit and you are all a special kind of wonderful 😘 4y
LeeRHarry Gosh I think my Mum would like this - she was a prem baby nurse in the 60s - stacked! Two of my best friends are nurses too - lots of love and respect! 💕 4y
Freespirit Hi @JennyM it's a bit quirky like most nurses😊 4y

CarolynM Lovely review. Stacked🙂 4y
Freespirit Thanks @CarolynM hope you are doing OK in these strange times. Are you in lock down? Thinking of you 4y
CarolynM No, not yet anyway. Our council area was named as one of the hot spots initially, but none of it has been locked down. The data seems to indicate the numbers have stabilised just under 10 in this area. I'm just hoping we can get it back under control soon. 4y
Freespirit I hope so too @CarolynM 👍🏻 4y
