Before I Wake | C.L. Taylor

This secret is killing me. It's only one line from her fifteen-year-old daughter's diary, but Susan knows it means everything. Charlotte is smart, popular, and beautiful. She is also in a coma following what looks like a desperate suicide attempt. What's more, Susan has no idea what compelled her daughter to step out in front of a city bus. Did she really know her daughter at all? In her hunt for the truth, Susan begins to mistrust everyone close to Charlotte, and she's forced to look further, into the depths of her own past. The secrets hidden there may destroy them both. "This fast, twisty psychological thriller has suspense on every page!"-Paula Daly, author of Just What Kind of Mother Are You? "One of the best books I've read in ages...such a chilling read."-Mel Sherratt, author of Taunting the Dead Published in the U.K.as The Accident "Gripping, memorable, and tense...a delight."-Alex Marwood, author of The Wicked Girls

I picked this psychological thriller from my tbr pile for an easy post Xmas read + it was a roller coaster read + starts my #booked2023 with a #twist.
Sue is a mother whose 15yr old dtr is in a coma after what appears to be an apparent suicide, when sue finds Charlotte's diary she suspects something is wrong which triggers memories of her life 20 yrs earlier.

With Storm Ciara in the UK. This will be me most of the day 😁☕️. #Theaccident. #C.L.Taylor. The Accident by C.L. Taylor

julesG That's what I'll do this afternoon. Ciara (named Sabine here in Germany) is supposed to hit us in the late afternoon. 5y
Dan_1988 @julesG I think it‘s very relaxing. Lovely reading and tea drinking weather 5y
julesG If you had any idea what the backyard of my block of flats looks like, you'd think differently. Thanks to my landlord's ambition to turn the attic into flats we have lots of nails, old roofing tiles, slats, etc lying around in the yard. I'm a bit worried that the debris turns into missiles. 5y

Great pace and suspenseful. A mother fighting to learn the secret that led to her teenage daughter's near death--what has Charlotte been hiding? And what does it have to do with an abusive relationship from the past? Does mental illness play a role? All of these questions kept me reading late into the night. The resolution wasn't completely satisfying, but overall, a fun read. This book was also released under the title "The Accident" in the UK.

This book was recommended to me by the members of #TBConFB I've never read a book by cally Taylor before so I didn't know what to expect but I will now be reading everything by this author. from the very start I was drawn into the plot and I really had no idea where the story line was going. at times my heart was pounding but I couldn't stop reading it. I would recommend this book Without a doubt

"Was Charlotte‘s accident an act of malice, or a tragic case of not having the will to live? This is an interesting read. It presents dual narratives and the characters are given a good amount of room to breathe and develop." Reviewed by Pegasus. https://goo.gl/6unHX4
