#VolumesAndVocals

This one is in my Kindle TBR and seems to fit the I‘ll Be There ( #IllBeThere ) prompt pretty well as the subtitle is “How to Be There for Yourself and Your People.” 🧡

⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 I picked this up after a couple of friends‘ out of town moves got me thinking about adult friendships, and how we make and keep them. This was pretty good— a guide for how to know and show up for yourself and meet, make, and keep (or, when necessary) let go of friendships. There are a lot of “scripts” (what to say in x situation) in later chapters that break up the text and led me to skim, but some interesting things to think about.

Part one focuses on the relationship with yourself and part two focuses on relationships with others. If you have trouble knowing what to say in difficult situations, this book has many suggestions.

The author has also written a book called Dot Journalling and some articles on the same subject. I found her suggestions for using a journal to track mental health interesting -

I could use some time in nature today to relax and destress! But it‘s cold and windy so I don‘t plan on going outside. What do you do to interact with nature on a regular basis?

Part One of book has some good reminders for taking care of yourself 🍂

wanderinglynn I sit and watch the ocean. 3y
mhillis @wanderinglynn Nice, I like the pictures you posted of the sea! I ended up listening to an ocean sounds video on YouTube this afternoon 🌊 3y
ChasingOm I take my coffee outside and drink my first few sips on the porch. More if it‘s not freezing, lol! 3y
mhillis @ChasingOm Oh that sounds so nice! ☕️ 3y

If I had read this when I was a young adult, I think it would have been a game changer for me. Instead, it seemed to reinforce lessons learned along the way. Which is not a bad thing.

I‘m very sleep deprived and I finished two very inspiring books today and my brain doesn‘t know what to do with itself.

“If you don‘t decide how you want to live your life, other people will decide for you. Making space means you have to say no sometimes-no to your beloved friends, to your coworkers, to the things you “want” (but don‘t really want), to the things you genuinely want (but not right this second), to your notifications and goddamn phone. You can‘t be your happiest self, most authentic self if you regularly abdicate this responsibility.”👌🏾
