4/5
This is a wonderful romance; although, the first few chapters were difficult to get through while Patience and her baby were being mistreated. I loved the way the relationship between the Duke and Patience developed and the mysteries and conspiracies unfolded. I read the second book in the series first, and think I'd have enjoyed it even more if I had read it in order.
A classic sort of Romance novel about a woman fighting for her child after her husband dies.
Charming! A widowed West Indian heiress and a grumpy wounded military hero a thrown together and just might be perfect for one another. Unless . . . I loved this book and can‘t wait to read the next in the series. #BookspinBingo @TheAromaofBooks
So. I liked the plot, I liked the set up. I liked the heroine. I didn‘t quite get why the hero and heroine wanted to be together. But boy oh boy is this cover much sunnier than the book: there‘s bedlam, trauma, war injuries and buckets of angst in this, but from the cover you would thing it‘s a drawing room comedy.
Working a lot this weekend but trying to find a few pockets of time to read.
Next historical romance to read! I have a mixed record with Vanessa Riley - she is sometimes too angsty for me - but the write ups describing it as witty mean I can‘t resist it!
I love amnesia so a book where the best friend just casually has amnesia is my jam. Also enjoyed the two protagonists, of course. And while babies in danger is not always my thing, enough characters love this baby such that the worry is short lived.

I liked that Patience was an heiress and Busick was an amputee. Lots of interesting historical details and facts tucked away into this story. The romance was slow to build and not an instant love-at-first sight tale. Plus, the family dynamics on both side were well done. This is the start of a series, but it‘s unclear if Patience‘s sisters will feature in them or not. Really want to know what happened to them!
Added two #bookmail books to my Read Soon cart - the tagged and the 4th volume of Fence. #romantsy #graphicnovel
I enjoyed this book. There‘s mystery and dramatics. The relationship between Patience and the duke was different, sometimes sweet and snarky at other times.
Patience is a West Indian heiress that married an Englishman and moved to London. He leaves her in the country and she‘s sent to Bedlam and loses her son when he commits suicide.
She is rescued and heads back to her son to investigate her husbands uncle, acts as a nanny to her son.
