Soft pick - 3/5
Alia, librarian in Basra, Iraq, does her best to save the books of her library from being destroyed by the raging war.
Why soft pick? Not a fan of the illustrations and of the writing style.

This wonderful story has been banned by multiple school districts for promoting Islam. The book was sold as a fund raiser to replace the lost library of Basra. Alia Muhammad Baker the librarian should be remembered as a hero. She died of covid this year. "In the Koran, the first thing God said to Muhammad was, 'Read.'" A.M. Baker I hope they re-release this book with more information about how she succeeded.

I always love a good children‘s picture book featuring a library or librarian These picture books show different kinds of libraries and the amazing librarians that worked in them.
I loved this! Save the books!
Another #bannedbooks selection. This true story is about a librarian who saved 70% of her library's books knowing that the likelihood of our being bombed and burned was high. Another one I wouldn't hesitate to put in the hands of a child. I would love to find out more about this woman!
Based on a true story, this courageous tale of a librarian who risks her life to save books gets my pick for #setinlibraries .

I love discovering picture books about libraries and librarians that are based on true stories.
