Men to Avoid in Art and Life
Men to Avoid in Art and Life | Nicole Tersigni
8 posts | 8 read | 15 to read
"Inspired by Tersigni's experience having her own Twitter jokes explained back to her by anonymous men, the book is organized around five categories of all-too-recognizable men who engage in this phenomenon--the mansplainer, the patronizer, the comedian, the concern troll, and the sexpert--and captures the intensely frustrating and universal moments in which women are lectured to by less qualified men who dish out mediocrity as if it's pure genius. The book illustrates these moments in a timeless yet contemporary way, bringing together women throughout history though shared experience and humor, united in one of the strongest forms of resistance: laughter"--

Someone had thought to spoof classic art, and it's pretty funny! This is one of my favorites, and it also shows a weird publishing error where there are faint printings of another page at the top...

TrishB @CarolynM I thought the matching of the comments and women‘s expressions was brilliant! We now want to go and visit all the paintings, so Amsterdam and New York here we come. (You know if we can ever leave the country again 😁). 4y

This is one of those adult picture books. It's essentially a small book of memes. Her Twitter is hilarious and the mensplaining against these works of art is 😆 👌🏻

Describing the phenomenon of mansplaining through art. Solid entertainment though some were definitely better than others.

⭐⭐⭐ This was nothing special but entertaining for a few minutes. The author added some snarky comments to old paintings - men talking down to or mansplaining to women and a few retorts. I know these men exist, but I'm fortunate to rarely encounter them. Tips & tricks on spotting them, dealing with them, & avoiding them might have made this book feel more complete. This was another #netgalley read now book.
