What a beautiful, coming of age, queer romance, superhero origin story/background information about a villain graphic novel! Jake, Kenny, Maria, and their families are super lovable. The superpower aspect is super interesting, especially once it's finally explained. And the love story is heartwarming. Definitely read this in one sitting
This is probably pretty small to try to read, but the author note at the beginning of this one is so beautiful! I can already tell I'm going to love it

This is a lovely graphic novel, with a beautiful story that centers queer people of color. It deals with so many issues impacting regular humans while also demonstrating one of my favorite ways I've seen a story of a person with superpowers told. I'm always a sucker for m/m romance, found family, and a setting (Truth or Consequences, NM) that feels like a character. Also, characters being reflective, accountable, empathetic, and communicative ftw.

Another great addition to the line of YA graphic novels that DC has been putting out lately. This story introduces a new character, but he has a connection to a couple well known characters from classic DC comics. It was a fun read with some wonderful new story lines to the comic book world. 💙
I fell head over heels, absolute completely in love with the art.
I mean I will read anything illustrated by Julie Maroh. Her art is mesmerizing.
Add to this beautiful art a compelling story of friendships, coming-of-age, coming-out (in more than the obvious way) ;and you get a tale you can't help but love it.

For the first prompt I'm going for this one.
Since my birthstone is an Aquamarine I thought an ocean book will do.

This graphic novel ends with a resources page, so I thought I'd share it!
I loved this beautiful graphic novel. When you're different in a small town, it's difficult to find a way to feel normal. This graphic novel tackles feeling like an outsider, fighting for your dreams, coming out, superpowers, deep and lasting friendship, and complicated family Dynamics. The story is fun, the art is beautiful, and the characters are highly loveable. #lgbtcomic #lgbt #lgbtq #ownvoices #superhero #aquaman #DC
The superhero element was a lot more subtle than I thought it would be. Jake trying to figure out the mystery behind his powers and coming to terms with his sexuality were both given equal weight. I liked that the book didn‘t go too overboard with the superhero aspect because that could have easily overshadowed the coming-out story.
