A Neon Darkness
A Neon Darkness | Lauren Shippen
4 posts | 4 read | 2 to read
A Neon Darkness, the second Bright Sessions novel from creator Lauren Shippen, asks: “What if the X-Men, instead of becoming superheroes, decided to spend some time in therapy?” (Vox) Robert Gorham always gets what he wants. But the power of persuasion is as potent a blessing as it is a curse. Robert is alone until a group of strangers who can do impossible things—produce flames without flint, conduct electricity with their hands, and see visions of the past—welcome him. They call themselves Unusuals and they give Robert a new name too: DAMIEN. Finally, finally he belongs. As long as he can keep his power under control. But control is a sacrifice he might not be willing to make. At the Publisher's request, this title is being sold without Digital Rights Management Software (DRM) applied.

Pickpick

This was such an interesting look into the mind of Damien. It's a prequel of sorts to the Bright Sessions so you know how he turns out but you can't help but sympathize with him as he struggles to control his ability. It was cool to see some new atypical characters and their powers too.

I am posting one book per day from my to-be-read collection. No description and providing no reason for wanting to read it, I just do. Some will be old, some will be new - don‘t judge me I have a lot of books.
Join the fun if you want. This is day 227.

Mehso-so

The concept of this book is really cool, along with the idea of teens with powers like the X-men. That said, not much happens here... until the end. They hung out, drank and smoke, went to concerts, swindled ordinarily people. I don‘t know... I couldn‘t really get attached or seem to care about the characters.

The writing is excellent, which is why I give it 3 stars. It probably deserves higher. The characters and plot just didn‘t pull me in.
