I think if people stopped calling this a princess bride retelling you‘d like it more. Anyway. The King has died and Princess Ama can‘t become queen unless she marries, all surrounding kings come running with proposals. But she loves the stable boy she grew up with. So someone kidnaps him. But they didn‘t call Ama‘s dad the Warrior King for nothing, she sets off to get her man back like the badass sword wielding princess she is.

I went into this expecting a gender-swapped retelling of The Princess Bride. But there was no electric eels, no impossibly tall cliffs, barely any sword fights, and there weren‘t even any peanuts. The references barely came together in the end. I felt cheated and disappointed. But if had to judge it by itself, it‘s a fine book. 2.75⭐️

So this is a kindof gender-swaped Princess Bride. A stable boy is kidnapped to get the Princess to do what another character wants. And instead the Princess goes to save him, finding herself in a deeper conspiracy against her becoming queen
I love Ama‘s ferocity in being her own person, which she lost a little when she beloved she lost it all. Relatable which I was disappointed, but that‘s life
I really hope she lets the fire rain

I love Princess Amarande so much just from this standout speech she gives her council. Because her council - hers because her father died, mysterious I say - say she has to marry before she officially becomes queen.

I have been excited for this book ever since I heard it was inspired by The Princess Bride. Starting today!

My #julywrapup. I read 10 books and out of the 10, I dnfed 2. I wish I had a better month and read more before I go back to work at the end of August. I got into a book slump after finishing Mexican Gothic.

I enjoyed this Princess Bride inspired book. Amarande is a princess and her father just died. In order to rule, she must marry. She receives a ransom note saying her true love, Luca, a stable boy has been kidnapped. She goes on a quest to find him. The only thing I didn‘t like was her having instant love for Luca. Other than that I can‘t wait for the sequel. #bookstagram #bibliophile #litsy #littens

Really enjoyable. Just the book I needed for fun, summer, fantasy reading with a touch of nostalgia. I hadn't realized it was A Princess Bride retelling. This was a pleasant surprise. I loved the movie as a kid. The characters & plotline were different though so I didn't feel like I was reading a story I already knew. Henning did a great job adding twists, political intrigue & feminism. I also really liked that the romance wasn't overwhelming.
