The Other Valley: A Novel | Scott Alexander Howard

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

There‘s something about the stillness of January that makes it perfect for a contemplative read. The author has a PhD in Philosophy, and while this is an intellectual story, it‘s also completely absorbing and wholly distinctive. It infiltrated my thoughts… I kept thinking about it when I wasn‘t reading, and it‘s still haunting me after finishing the last page. #BOTM #botmbacklist #botmbacklog

My January #botm are here already! I'm really excited for all four books. In fact, I'm probably going to have a hard time picking which one to read first. And I got my hammer for finishing the 2024 reading challenge. It's heavy!

I need to stop with the book buying.
I‘m getting out of control.

I had to get a #botm book this month to be able to get my birthday book. The thriller does actually sound pretty good. I was originally iffy about it, but am now looking forward to it.

I did pass on this month‘s #aarkvarkbookclub.

BarbaraBB I know what you mean… with all those beat of lists I‘ve been out of control too 🤷🏻‍♀️ 3d
Avanders Dude, same!! But, that book looks good… 🤓😏🫣 2d

This was an incredibly moving mystery. Loved how it highlighted women‘s movement into becoming more than a wife; and it‘s those women who are the ultimate heroes of this tale that spans generations. #botm

Good month for #bookspin. I‘ve got a #toblonglist book and my choice from #botm. If my box were here now I‘ve grab the new Lisa Genova, but it‘s still in Illinois! 👎🏻

BarbaraBB Curious about that ToB one. I haven‘t heard of it yet! 4d

My December reading results were good for a busy month. I finished 16 books & started 2. I didn‘t quite get to everything I wanted but I read 3 books & a story for #SeasonalCozies & joined in #NancyDrewBR #SundayBuddyRead #Naturalitsy #MidWinterSolace & read all of my #Roll100 picks as well as completed my #BOTM challenge & #OUABC 40 book challenge.

I‘m midway through my #JolabokaflodSwap book & started the book from my #OUABC Up All Night Box.

This is such a good story that I found myself putting it down just so that it would not end.

The way the author gave even minor characters their own POV was a great move in my opinion.

I didn‘t get the comparison with Evelyn Hugo while I was reading (and after I finished) the book. But, now that I think about it, I see it.

If you picked this as a #BOTM selection, you‘re in for a treat!

Read this!

Monthly books! #Aardvarkbookclub #Bookofthemonth #botm

For Aardvark, full box again (🫨🫨), incl their book of the year (tagged), which, yes, I woke up at 530a to make sure I could secure (8aET is 6a here), plus these 2 I just… can‘t… pass… up. @AardvarkBookClub

For BOTM, a little lackluster, but I picked this interesting sounding thriller + getting the next issue of their short story subscription. Must… actually start that series soon… 🤔

Stats for December 2024, including my #bookofthemonth for both, fiction and non-fiction. It was a good reading month and a good way to end the year.
