This book is beautifully illustrated and written. It emphasizes loving yourself for who you are, especially as a black child. The book is very poetic and inspiring.
Magnificent Homespun Brown: A Celebration written by Samara Cole Doyon in 2020 is a beautiful poetic book about a young girl who compares her skin and parts of her body to rivers, and trees and honey. It has won the Coretta Scott King award. It is a great book for recognizing the beauty in everything.
“Magnificent, homespun brown, like all the treasures, places, and people I love coming together in me.”
I liked how each page was a color of something different that she had like her eyes or her hair. I couldn‘t wait to turn to the next page to see what she was going to compare the colors of next!
This book is about a girl who compares the colors of her eyes, her hair, her lashes, etc. to other beautiful things in the world. All of the different hues of different colors are magnificent and each illustration is super realistic
“Magnificent, homespun brown, like all the treasures, places, and people I love coming together in me.” This quote perfectly wraps up the ideas in this book but also is a nice reminder about all the things that are you are beautiful.
I loved this book. It teaches about differences, self acceptance/ esteem, and connecting your own features to objects. This book was uplifting and would be something I would like to read to boost self esteem and personal differences.
Magnificent Homespun Brown by Samara Cole Doyon 2020. This story takes us through things a little girl like about herself with all her brown features. She then compares them to this greatly detailed story about something completely unrelated. The art in this book is light, happy, and gives a carefree kind of vibe.
This is a Corretta Scott King award winning 2021 book where a little girl compares her skin color , eyes , laughter to many other beautiful things that bring joy into her life. This book is great for students that need more self love and positive speech about themselves and how they view themselves. This is a great RA book and some EL strategies that could be used are 3 since the book is all about self love , and UDL 4.1 and 4.2 #ucflae3414sp21
