I‘m not sure how to review this one. I finished it, so I did want to find out how it ended, but there were chunks of the book where I just didn‘t care. I‘d struggle through and then something would happen to draw me back to the story. I think this means there could have been better editing.

Starting this on a 15 minute break. The second book came through for a patron and the plot was so intriguing I had to find the first. Sounds a bit like Ben Aarondovich‘s series, but in this the MC is Ravi Chandra Singh who is a London private detective who also sees Hindu Gods during moments of high anxiety and stress. 👍

Fun and entertaining mysteries solved by a crew of characters. Fast-paced and interwoven cases. Has some elements of Janet Evanovich, Elmore Leonard and Blake Crouch. Has been picked up for TV series. May make a more entertaining series than book. #netgalley

So if, like me, you‘ve read all of Ben Aaronovich‘s Peter Grant books and are looking for something to tide you over until the next one, this fits the bill nicely. Very similar feel and sense of humor. There‘s no magic use, but Ravi does see gods (mostly Hindu) and doesn‘t like it. He also works for a private investigation firm with some VERY exclusive clients, and life just keeps getting weirder... Lots of fun.

Ravi is a former teacher and one-time religious scholar who has visions of Hindu gods and goddesses when he is under stress. He works for a private detective agency in London with a diverse group of talented outcasts--stoner IT guy, hackers, a pair of brutal ex-cops who are also a gay couple- solving problems for exclusive clientele. This was a fun read for me---full of humor, interesting cases and quick-paced. And, Lord Vishnu tweets!

Ravi is an interesting protagonist, but part of what makes him interesting is that he's a Lawful Good character surrounded by Chaotic Neutrals and Lawful Evils, and he has to constantly square his morality with his colleagues' much looser morality (or seeming lack of it), and the world's chaos. I'm still a bit prickly and burned out from the results of the recent you-know-what and this is inspiring my current book choices. The Underground Railroad, The Mothers, Swing Time all take up space in my tbr abyss but I don't want a heavy read right now. I ran across this cover while looking through my books and have been hypnotized by Ravi's dreamy face 😍😘so he and I will be spending some quality time together! ❤️📚

... Yes, I judge books by their covers. 100% guilty as charged. But how could I possibly say no to a book with that face on it - especially when it's in front of a really interesting urban fantasy? Also this has a TV show in the works, and I am SO looking forward to seeing that too.

A great twist to the PI trope involving a group of failures and misfits with specific skillsets and Hindu gods lurking around, following the main character. Fast-paced and filled with snappy dialogue, I really enjoyed reading this novel and look forward to the next volume! 👍🏻I received an ARC for review. Agh! Came across this at MPIBA today. It sounds fantastic and is being adapted as a tv show. AND THEN I SAW THE FINAL COVER!!! Sendhil Ramamurthy is Ravi!
