14 posts | 17 read | 2 reading | 9 to read
Diane Ackerman's lusciously written grand tour of the realm of the senses includes conversations with an iceberg in Antarctica and a professional nose in New York, along with dissertations on kisses and tattoos, sadistic cuisine and the music played by the planet Earth. "Delightful . . . gives the reader the richest possible feeling of the worlds the senses take in."--The New York Times. (Literature--Classics & Contemporary)

A little too flowery at times and def slightly dated, but still a really beautiful and fascinating delve into the beauty and insanity of living.

Read partially with grace. Found at mom's house.

Pickpick

See, hear, smell, touch, taste, explore the senses through Diane‘s creative prose. I personally loved this collection, The depth and diversity of Diane‘s content was fascinating, even the weird science parts where she describes how whole systems operate down to the last cell. I felt hyper-aware after finishing.

#TBRtemptation post 6! The Pulitzer Prize-nominated author of "The Zookeeper's Wife" provides a highly praised work unique tour of our senses and provides some perspective which may never have crossed your mind: from conversations with an Antarctic iceberg, to a professional nose in NYC, to kisses and tattoos, to sadistic cuisines, to the music played by the planet Earth. Sounds fantastic! #blameLitsy #blameMrBook ?

I love the blend of poetry and science in Diane Ackerman's writing. This tour of the five senses and their place in our experience, history, and souls may leave you hungry for elevated sensory experience of all kinds.
