The Missing Piece Meets the Big O
The Missing Piece Meets the Big O | Shel Silverstein
6 posts | 12 read
The missing piece sat alone waiting for someone to come along and take it somewhere.... The different ones it encounters - and what it discovers in its helplessness - are portrayed with simplicity and compassion in the words and drawings of Shel Silverstein.

This wonderful poetry book hits home. I cannot read this story without crying. There is so much that it says and such a simple and beautiful way. This book teaches us so much about learning to fulfill our selves. It also shows the struggles we go through when we hang to fill our emptiness with meaningless temporary things.

#RiotGrams Day 7: #welllovedreads A beloved friend gave me this when it was desperately needed. It feels like a declaration opposite of The Giving Tree and should be the higher valued lesson.

When I was in first grade, my class loved to have our teacher borrow "The Missing Piece" from the school library and read it out loud everyday until it was due. She got it for us a few times that year. My family owns a copy because of this and my kids enjoy the book and hearing my fond memories of it. When my son spotted this on display at our public library this afternoon his face lit up. We have wanted to read it for awhile. #TBRTuesday
