The Monsters of Rookhaven
The Monsters of Rookhaven | Padraig Kenny
7 posts | 2 read | 15 to read
Sometimes the monsters take us. Sometimes we become the monsters. Mirabelle has always known she is a monster. When the glamour protecting her unusual family from the human world is torn and an orphaned brother and sister stumble upon Rookhaven, Mirabelle soon discovers that friendship can be found in the outside world. But as something far more sinister comes to threaten them all, it quickly becomes clear that the true monsters aren't necessarily the ones you can see. A thought-provoking, chilling and beautifully written novel, Pdraig Kenny's The Monsters of Rookhhaven, stunningly illustrated by Edward Bettison, explores difference and empathy through the eyes of characters you won't want to let go. 'A stunning book . . . a brand new take on the monster story' Eoin Colfer, author of Artemis Fowl 'A magnificent, shadowy, gothic adventure full of heart' Emma Carroll 'A wildly imaginative story . . . a triumph' Irish Examiner

Isn‘t this cover beautiful? I‘m currently listening to the audiobook “The Monsters of Rookhaven” by Padraig Kenny 📚 As you can see, the cover art is beautiful and the physical book has illustrations by @edward_bettison, and I‘m fairly certain I must add it to my library! #themonstersofrookhaven #padraigkenny #edwardbettison #booksbrewsandbooze Thank you @netgalley and @henryholtbooks, for the opportunity to listen to the book!

This is a middle grade book, which was my last read in October and quite apt too. There are amazing illustrations in this book. I really enjoyed it. It has two worlds, two young people step into the other world and meet the monsters. #books

The writing is a little thin in places, especially at the start where it feels very screenplay-like. But as the story develops everything settles nicely in this fun YA with plenty of heart. The book itself is gorgeous with brilliant illustrations. And I love Piglet.
